Good 21" Monitor?

Renegade23216

Senior member
Looking for a BLACK 21" monitor. I can pay up to $350ish. Prefer to pay about $250. Want to use it for gaming. Refurbished is acceptable (but not preferred).

Any recommendations? Please provide sepcific store/link if you have a good deal!

There are a lot of choices of 21 and 22 inch CRT monitors out there, however there are a couple that may fit your budget.

Here's one that I think is pretty good:

PHILIPS 201B4074 21" CRT

oops, sorry its not black, its beige lol ...

You'd be much better off getting a super-high-end 19" monitor than a crappy 21" monitor.

NEC SuperBright Diamondtron monitors are by far the best looking screens I've seen.

They're also the only monitors I've seen where you don't have to turn the brightness all the way up for it to look right next to an LCD. The 22" version is $569, though.

The only way you could get a really good 21" screen for $250-$350 would be a refurbished one. http://www.accurateit.com/ is a good place -- I live right next to the warehouse. You can get a good Diamondtron or Trinitron 21" for as low as $225.

...oops, looks like that was already mentioned...

You might be right, there is a reason why some 21 inchers cost as much as a 19 incher. If you want great image quality, it costs a bit more. But I think the Philips model I listed above aint bad, pretty good in fact. Good for gaming at least.

The problem with refurbs is not knowing what you are going to get. Then if you don't like it you have to ship the 70# monster back, most of the time at your expense.

I've even bought them at a computer show and when I got home it had a small scratch on the screen. It's not that noticable and in the corner so I kept it because otherwise it had a beautiful picture. Dell P-1110.

Grade A is not supposed to have any screen blemishes.

NOW, I see TOSTADA lives close to a refurb place where he could go over and look at it before you bought it. The key is to look at the screen with a total white background. Then you can see any scratches.
If they have some colored game running you often can't see the scratch.
Otherwise you have to take their word on the grade A stuff.

I swear by Sony trinitron flat tubes...but the guts matter too. I like Sony, Dell, HP and IBM in the refurb arena. We also have some Nokia 445 pros with tritron tubes but the others I mentioned are superior. I favor the Dell but the others I mentioned are great too.

I completely agree with the NEC comment... I love my Samsung 19" (900IFT), but my NEC FE700+ Multisync has a better picture than my Samsung.... insanely nice picture and color saturation.
