I recently purchased an i7 950. It works great, but it runs a little warm with the stock cooler. I can overclock it to 4GHz, but unfortunately, it runs at 97º C at load if I do that. Can someone recommend a good Socket 1366 cooler?

Have a look at the cooler reviews over at [H]ard|OCP.

The choice comes down to a compromise between price, performance, noise level, etc. You will have to decide what is most important to you.

If you have the money to spend, I would recommend the Noctua NH-D14. It keeps my i7 920@4.2ghz in the upper 30's at idle and middle 60's under load.

Just to warn you, it is a pretty good size cooler. Make sure you have a case deep enough for it.

This x2, the NH-D14 is hard to beat for air cooling.

megahalems....I just ordered my 3rd. I know the noctura is supposed to be better, but its $20 more than the megahalem, and they keep me under 70c.

I just bought the NH-U12P SE2 and it works pretty well. i7 950 @ 4Ghz 1.25v. Idle 35c, Load 55c. Fairly quiet, and I got it for $62 at svc.com. I was hitting 100c as well at first, but it turned out to be case related.

I have the Venomous-X coolers in both my i7 systems. Idle high 30s and load low 70s. Probably be in the 60s if my ambient temp wasn't so high.
