Hi All,

I was wondering if you guys knew about some good 120mm silent fans. I built my pc about a year back, Came with some custom fans. Sounds like a jet engine.

so looking for good silent ones...

tx in advance

Others worthy of looking at:

Scythe, Akasa, Coolermaster. Most important thing is rotational speed, 120mm @ 1600rpm is not going to be quiet because of the sheer amount of air moved. Nearly any 1200rpm 120mm fan will be quiet. Once you get to that speed the brand starts to be important.

Bearing and motor noise are also a factor.

The 120mm Yate Loons are the quietest 120mm fan I've heard. The only downside being that they are sleeve bearing based, so I wouldn't want them in a PSU, or on my CPU HS/F.

for cost effective quiet 120mm fans Yate Loons are where its at 🙂 I have 3 of em in my system (TT Rebranded em) they're great 🙂

I have a SilverStone 120mm that is almost dead silent. It reports that it runs at about 700RPMs. I would highly recommend it.

Everyonie is recommending diff fans but one that keeps coming up is Yate Loon. Sure Vantec Stealth is quiet and so are a lot of LOW RPM ones, but you want a RPM:noise ratio, basically a CFM:noise ratio. You can make ANY fan quiet by spinning it slow (provided it doesn't whine). Panaflos are decently quiet, but Yate Loons take the cake. They are quiet and provide tons of CFM. I have 2 of these running in my system along with an Antec slow 120mm and a Panaflo Medium. All are attached to a fan controller, and I can tell whcih one fares better when downvolted.

If you don't believe me with Yate Loons, check out SPCR. Keep a 120mm running @ about 1200rpm and you should have a damn quiet fan..

Bought 2 yate loons, guess I get one free....

Hmm where do I put it! No room anywhere will if fit on any passive HSC that do not have a fan on it???

Very smooth motor operation, and pretty much silent at 3m when spinning at 900-1000RPM- no clicking on PWM is a real plus as well. COuld be useful in places where a sleeve bearing might not be expected to fare well, although I have not come across any reports of torture testing to confirm this.
