gonna make my desktop a public computer(aka bro's) and am now seeking a gaming laptop

dayam son, they make 19" laptops? Never knew that. Don't think I would consider it though, 19" kinda puts it out of the portability realm. 17" tops for me.

Even alienware got out of the 18" rigs... too bad. Sager might be the only one left!

That said, I'm in the same boat and just waiting another month or so... the new GTX 1070 and Radeon RX 480Mobile should be riiiiiiiight around the corner.

If you just can't wait and a GTX 960M is enough for you, Dell has a model in the small-business line http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/dell-inspiron-15-7000 which is a LOT cheaper than the Alienware gamer... it's not quite as fast as comparable i5/960M laptops, but a lot cheaper. Best deal around if money is tight.

I have a spare monitor, may just get a desktop instead of a laptop

How much am I gonna spend for a gaming pc that can run CS go on high settings?

Not much... it's been around for a few years. You could probably manage it easily with a system costing $800-1,000, and I might be overly cautious. Big thing is just getting a decent mid-range video card -- I wouldn't get one worth over $300 unless you want a card that's very future-proof.

You need SOME portability for taking to work or LAN parties, etc? Consider a little ITX machine from the get-go.

Heck, do it anyway. 😉 Style is worth the extra $50-100 sunk into smaller-but-equal video card and motherboard.

change of plans. gonna keep my current desktop(just upgrade the card) and get a desktop(just the desktop, no monitor as i have a spare) for my bro/apt mate

He's currently playing diablo 2 heavily, has no interest in cs:go

what can I get away with spending for this?

Buy one of my Haswell G3258 @ 4.0Ghz rigs, I'll put in a GTX950 2GB GDDR5 card for you. Call it $330 shipped, YOU supply OS.

I've got a Haswell i3 rig, a slimline Acer that I bought refurb with Win7 64-bit (appears new, except for my fingerprints on the case), and I bought a low-profile 750ti 2GB GDDR5 card to throw into that one to make a gaming rig.

I could let you have that for $425 shipped.

while i have this thread open. i have a latptop(t410s) that freezes up with games as old as wc3 tf. the os is win8.1. Which is better than 10, but it still freezes up with 8.1. Maybe its the cpu overheating? Or the graphics card?
