'cause i've been Windows since forever. I'm actually really excited to get down and dirty with Final Cut Pro, and familiarize myself with the system! I'm running q6600 G0. I'm sure it'll move it fast enough!

OSX has a full blown Terminal, that alone should be enough for any geek to get excited over. Terminal >>> CMD. I hope when I get my p67 MB + CPU in a few weeks I don't have much trouble getting my current Hackintosh install to work on it.

i'm not gonna boot camp this thing... I already have a i7 930 @ 3.83GHz w/ 12GB of RAM and a GTX480 w/ x-fi, 160G2 SSD, 2x1TB Black 6gb/s, 1x1.5TB Black 6gb/s as my windows 7 system.

this one q6600 should do it good with the ol' trusty 8800gtx!

Powershell (standard in all Windows installs now) is much, much more powerful than CMD.

It's named very wrong because it's a terrible interactive shell. And on top of that there are still way, way too many XP and Win2K3 installs out there to call Pow-Pow-PowerShell standard so you're still looking at batch scripting or VBS for anything that needs to work everywhere.

OS X is no other than just a really dumbed down Linux that they make you pay for.

Not really, nothing in OS X is from Linux. The kernel is Mach and the cli userland is from FreeBSD and the rest is closed, mangled Apple shit. And there's so many little things wrong with it that make it a PITA compared to a real Linux distribution, like lack of package management, the GUI not being X, the filesystem paths, etc. Sure there are workarounds for almost all of it, but I don't see the point when a Linux distribution is simpler for me.

I wouldn't say 'terrible', but it's definitely better for scripting than interactive use.

Well a lot of that comes from CSRSS because it can be dynamically resized and stuff, but it's way too verbose for day to day use. People complain about unix commands being too terse and hard to remember, but PowerShell has the exact opposite problem and the included aliases don't cover much.

Welcome to the club! :)

Which 8800GTX do you have? My 768mb 8800GTX has been my best Hackintosh card over the last couple of years, never fails to work.

Which i7 board do you have? Might be hackable.

I have a EP45-UD3P, so 775 mobo. 8800gtx doesn't get fully recognized by 10.6.0? Anyways, I'm not certain if I need to flash it or not... I really don't want to!

either the EVGA 8800gtx or the xfx 8800gtx... it was a watercooled one (with the waterblock) but I took it off and aircooled it so it'll be less hassle... i'm not OC'ing my system anyways (though I should... G0 q6600) But I'm running stock intel HSF

I have a BFG 768mb 8800GTX OC and it works great under 10.6.7, no flashing required (PC version). I am also running an EP45-UD3P. I can send you my latest installer for Snow Leopard when you're ready. Actually, I'll be out of town this week, but next week when I get back I can do a walkthrough since your system is pretty similar to mine.

yeah... i think i just need to download the combo updates.... it doesn't even recognize my quad core! (q6600) it says:

Processor 2.43 GHz Unknown
Memory 8 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

a system update could be the difference of recognizable hardware and unknown hardware!

still nada.. i'm on 10.6.7 (updated from 10.6.0) and processor (q6600) still is unknown and the GPU is still 512MB Nvidia Graphics Engine.

I'm ready for it whenever you can! I'm super excited about getting this up and running (P.S. I'm typing in Safari on my Hackintosh 10.6.7!) Audio works, mostly everything but I would like the system to recognize my Core 2 Quad and my 8800 GTX! I basically have nothing on my system right now!

Are you using some package installer or just putting kexts where they need to be? FakeSMC if you don't have it.

Good board to start a hack with, btw :)

huh ports exists for osx. what's better than ports? compile or die!

The only thing ports is better than is no package management. Or maybe MSI, but that's like saying you hooked up with the hottest chick at fat camp, i.e. not exactly something to brag about.

i realized now that my q6600 will never be "officially recognized". Though if that's bothersome to me, I can just edit the text and change the "unknown processor". It does detect all 4 cores, which is the important stuff.

I'm not quite sure how the Video will work, but I'm getting a 1920x1080 monitor today. I guess if that works without any modification, I can live with it saying "512MB" instead of "768MB". That's not a big deal. Then I'm gonna try out starcraft to see how that runs too!

The big deal with graphics usually is that if it supports QE/CI and also rotation (if necessary) you're [usually] fine. I'm just completely out of the loop on graphics because the 4870 is PNP.

And Kaido, which installer? :)

How could you possibly be this excited over an operating system?

It's sad, right?

To me it just seems like too much of a hassle. The monopoly double standard amazes me. M$ loses lawsuit for including IE in windows...

Apple writes it into it's TOS that to legally use their OS, you have to buy their hardware also.

So.. the difference is that MS doesn't make you buy something in addition, they just include a piece of software for free so you can surf the internet. Apple makes you buy a computer in order to legally run their software.

If apple released a stand alone OS, I guarantee they'd make billions and would probably lose alot of haters in the process. They are "the future" and yet the run nazi tactics like it's the 1940's

It's not a double-standard because Apple doesn't have a monopoly on the PC market, MS does.

Probably, but they'd never do that because then they would really be in direct competition with MS in the PC market and that's not something they can win yet. And they prefer to make the 1000% markup they make on each PC sale and I can't blame them.
