Going to get a car soon, leaning towards a sporty car or a nice sedan. It'll be my first car, so i don't wanna spend to much on it. Recommendations?

Many will probably disagree, but why not get a Marauder and have a little of both?

what's the budget? I like the new Scion tCs...good standard equipment and looks, decent power, and Toyota reliability:thumbsup: They MSRP for ~$15000 and come with an array of dealer accessories as options. A nice sedan I would get for my first car is a Mazda3. IMO they look great and they are also highly rated by auto magazines. Your price range might be totally different, so dunno if this would help....I also didn't take used cars into consideration...

He hasn't gotten a price range from his parents yet, I'm assuming it depends on the safety ratings and how good a salesman they have, I'm going to reccomend a slightly used Volvo to them for him. Just so you know, I do know him IRL

According to Edmunds, the 2002 Volvo S40 would be ~$16k, the S60 would be about ~$18.5k, both from a dealership

If it's a sporty car, expect to get raped for insurance...unless you're not paying for that either, then just go all out.

But don't be ridiculous and jump straight to something crazy that you might wreck...like an S2000

Maybe he's waiting until his grades for summer school come in and his parents base the price range on that :)

If you want something in the $1-$5k range, get a Celica. Somewhat sporty, but get good mileage and won't totally rape you on insurance.

A good safe car to wreck, for certain, but due to parts costs, insurance will be high on a Volvo. And due to parts cost and maintenance, it costs a lot of money to maintain a Volvo out of warranty.

the current gen maxima is horrendously ugly buck toothed freak
and the altima is and aways will be uglyl (the tail anyway)

it does look nice from the front and sides though but the back just destroys the rest of it

both handle like boats as well though they are fast

i would take a volvo s40, camry, legacy, or accord(still ugly but less ugly) over them just because the nissans are too ugly to drive

imo nissan's designs are getting uglier by the day
except for the Z

another complaint is the interior
i thought nissan stepped up their interior but after getting a 2K4 altima as a loner
i was horribly disappointed
IMO the interior is no better than subarus and maybe even worse

the only thing that they have going for them is the sweet sweet VQ

but that is not enough to redeem them

the only nissan sedan i would even consider is the sentra but there are much better buys at that price

scion tc, mazda 3, impreza RS, corolla XRS

i really like maximas around the 2000 era but since then they have really gone downhill in terms of styling and remained virtually unchanged in terms of interior

Z is decent i would'nt call it spectacular or anything but compared to the altima and maxima it is

The Z is far better looking than any of those cars. For that matter, same with Altima and Maxima. Apparently you don't know what cars are supposed to look like. :p

Actually insurance costs are pretty good on Volvo's because they're perceived as being old-man cars and family cars, not hot-rods.
