I'm thinking about getting an alarm system, but the cheapest route possible.

Do you guys:

a) Buy and install it yourself

b) Buy parts and alarm system from Online stores and get a local shop to install it.

c) Get everything from a local shop.

I assume ebay and online stores are generally cheaper, so i may want to take option b, any opinions?

I'm getting an DEI alarm/remote start system + proximity sensor. And maybe include the new DEI LCD remote. Looks fancy but cost alot more. I have not check prices with my local shop yet, but i will tomm.

Last question, anyone knows of a reliable and cheap online store selling car alarms, pls let me know, thnks.

Oh great. Another car alarm that nobody is going to pay any attention to. It will honk and beep for hours while the neighbors can't sleep. I'm sorry, but I just don't see any benefit to car alarms. Why don't you just install an electrical cutoff switch so the car can't be stolen?

If you are an expert and can install it yourself then go that route.

I went to a car audio/security specialty shop called Car Toys they installed a Clifford Matrix 2 for $400 which included professional installation, trunk pin, trunk release by remote, 2 remote controls and 4 year warranty.

Don't install it yourself. There are lots of things to mess up if you want to things like starter kill, keyless entry and the like. I paid big bucks for my install, even tho I got the cheapest alarm in the Ungo line. But, because of the install, it hardly ever false alarms and I'm very satisfied.

i'm not gonna install it myself! :)

I only have local shops, CC and BB here that does car alarms.

Well, hope i can find the best deal!

I have to think about warranty as well, i got an advice that i i take option b, who covers the warranty? So i may take option c!

ack...the retail stores do a shotty job installing things, IMO. If you have to goto a retail store (and don't have a car audio shop available), goto Circuit City and get a Viper alarm. I know BB sells Clifford alarms, and it is a DEI (directed electronics), but go with a Viper or Python. BTW...getting it dealer installed allows you to take advantage of the warranty.
