Gonna buy the lil' lady a ring, got a couple question

So X-Mas is rolling around and the gf is hankerin' for some finger bling.

I know jewelry stores have massive markup on this sh!t. Is it common place or proper for one to haggle down the price a little? I'm not talking an auction over it or anything, just asking if they can do better on the price; playin' tha game 😉

Also, anyone have recommendations for jewelry stores? Raleigh NC here

Thanks!

My husband bought me a ring from Kay's last Christmas. They did a good job on the resizing, and again when I broke the band. 😱

Buy online, better prices. I've actually gotten some decent stuff for my mom and sister off ebay.
Got a suggestion as to places other than eBay? That and of course, if I go in saying I can get the same damn thing for less from a reputable website I'm sure that will help...

Blue Nile is really reputable [edit] but not always the best price on stuff. Better than retail though. You can find coupons for Blue Nile too.

the bf got my "promise ring" (i guess you can call it that) at the zales outlet, where it was actually marked down from the retail price. it's not the world's prettiest diamond, but it means a lot. and it was moderately cheap at a bit over 100 something.

zales and kay = no haggle.
independent jewelrs = haggle
diamond district in LA = haggle whee!
online = good deals from reputable sites.

20/20 did a thing on diamonds the other night
Costco came up as the winnah! Exact quality of diamond advertised for a price a lot cheaper than most jewelers.

Honestly, buying something out of Thailand off ebay really is the way to go. Jewelry is WAY cheaper over there. You mostly just want to keep an eye on the quality of the metalwork.
