Gonna buy a G-Shock watch......how are they?

Oh yea, what do they mean when they say "shock resistant?"

You can wear it when you are using a jackhammer, with no ill effects. You can hit it with a baeball bat and throw it off of a building and it will still function properly.

Some of the newer models are also electromagnteically resistant too. That is so cool, like if you stick your arm in a microwave and cook it, your watch will still work! Sweet!

Here is my watch.

I love it! Syncs to atomic clock broadcast from Colorado each morning at 5AM. Also has a solar panel face with a rechargeable battery, so theoretically I'll never need a new battery (but rechargeable batts always eventually die anyway).

The best part is that it was only $60 at costco! I heart costco!

krunchykrome,
Look at the third pic on for the watch you are bidding on and then look at the second pic here.. Do you see the difference? It is a big deal when you beat these watches up, to make sure the band is a strong as the rest of the watch.

Peace

May be a dumb question...but do G-shocks do well in ocean water? I made the mistake of taking my old watch in while boogie-boarding and it didn't seem to do well after that. 🙁

I said I wanted something rugged, not pretty. Show me a pic of a "rugged" Luminox.

navy seals wear the luminox. they are as rugged as you can get!

That's weird. I spent ten years in the Teams and we all wore G-Shocks. Huh. Maybe that was just us "east coasters" but I kinda doubt it. Hmm. Note to self: Don't believe everything you read in an advertisement designed to sell something.

When my original Team issue watch disintegrated after thirteen years, I bought a new G-Shock 'cause I couldn't find another that compared for the price.

Since you're a navy seal, let me ask you my question...do all G-shocks perform well in ocean water?

the only ppl that think gshock watches are for dorks, are dorks themeselves. i've had several, and they're all awesome. i busted my last one on a 10oft dive when the watch wasn't proofed to that depth. here's a pic of my current watch - i've had it for several months. it syncs w/ the atomic clock in colorado and the battery is recharged by the sun and/or artificial light. it was featured in playboy in one of those "20 gadgets to own" articles. it might be a little big for your tastes, here's what it looks like on me. i'm 5'11" 200lbs for reference.

I'm actually not even sure what type of music Emo is. My roomate was telling me (the guy with the red hair on the left in the photo ^) how much he hates those types of bands the other day however.

If it's what I think it is, sh-t like simple plan then no, I really don't listen to that crap.

Well - in my case - shock resistant meant going over the falls on a 25' wave at Pipeline, hitting the reef and coming up with the my G-shock "still tickin'".
(it takes a licking . . . )

Nice watch, big and bulky, but great for surfing (mine has a built in temp gauge) . . . best of all, I got mine as a gift for helping out the "Van's/G-shock" triple crown of surfing events in Hawaii.

sweet deal

If you are going to get a G-Shock, at least be unique while you're at it. Buy one of the limited releases that Casio puts out in Japan.

Edit: The following refers to the eBay one.
What makes you think those G Shock watches are rugged? Is it the unecessary bulk? (what are those little dials for?)
They are made to look rugged, and all that extra plastic means it will snag and get in the way easier. And very little of that room is used for the display. Instead they put those LCD dials that were cool when we were 9. G-Shock watches look dopey, and I chuckle every time I see an engineer looking guy wearing one.

Timex Ironman, that makes use of the size

Digital compass that shows bearing in degrees!

When I say rugged, I mean I want a watch that can take a beating. Everyone has been saying they last forever. one guy earlier said he ran his over with a truck and a plane. Thats rugged. I doubt any of those watches you linked could withstand that.
