Gonna buy a G-Shock watch......how are they?

I had one for roughly 6 years. Loved it. It could take quite a beating as well. Would have gotten another one, but I wanted something a bit smaller.

Anybody own a G-Shock? I want a pretty rugged watch to wear at work, doing things outside, etc. I like the look. What do you think?

Had one for over 5 years and besides a new battery its worked great. Still have the same band too.

Here's the one Im gonna bid on. Something pretty cheap and rugged.

Anybody had/have this one?

I had that one for about 2 weeks before I found a better looking one and switched them. That one was nice, I just didn't like the plastic band. Mine is velcro, with an arctic camo pattern on it.

- edit -

28$ is a good deal if you can get it.

I actually prefer a rubber band. I hope I can get it for $30.

they're cool for the first week, afterthat they just get in the way. I guess people wear big watches to make up for certain short comings.

To each his own 🙂

G-Shock and calculator/lcd-multifunctionwatches= Nerd. Not a big deal for some, but, if you are looking for a partner in life, you may want to hold off until you have a ring around their finger.

Mind you, if you already have a utility belt of gadgets the watch choice won't make much difference.

Your call...

Geez, is it that nerdy of a watch? I just like the way it looks.

The problem is you look like a dork. That being said, I loved mine. I have not worn one for many years (I go with the sleek tissot watches now) but I was a big fan of them at the time. And yes, they can take a beating.

But why...why does it make you look like a dork? And yes, I have a few other watches...but they're more "nice" and they're not the kind of rugged watch I would like.

Pfft, dork, schmork. If you need/want a rugged watch, get one. Not everyone with a girlfriend is a shiny watch wearing prettyboy. 🙂

That said, Luminox watches look to be a lot lower profile and more "classy" IMO.

Oh yea, what do they mean when they say "shock resistant?"

Technically, this means you could use the watch as a puck in ice hockey. This was one of the tests they did to prove its shock resistance: a professional hockey player gave it a good hit, and the watch still worked after that.

I had exact same watch you were bidding on for five years now. Had to replace a band once, and the battery, too. But the watch is falling apart now: the plastic case cracked and split. But it sure took a beating: I wore it in all of my backpacking adventures and stuff. Can't complain. Most of the other watches I had lasted for a couple of months only.

My first G-Shock is sitting in my pickup truck jammed in my dash cubby as my clock. Pay attention here: I've had the watch for 13 years and I still have not replaced the battery.Yep, 13 years and the light still works and it still beeps and all. I wore this watch when I worked for Delta Airlines and I have had it run over by the following: a Jet Tug (tows the plane), a McDonell-Douglas MD 88 airplane and a Boeing 727 airplane. Ive also run it over numerous times with my truck and my car. All of this just to show people how friggin tough the watch is.

I'm on my second watch(kinda like the one you have in your pic) and I like it a whole lot. The only drawback to the one you are looking at is the wristband. The pins are the weakest link on the watch. If you hook the watch on something, the pins can bend and pop out. Then you need to hunt down pins, etc. Some models like the one I have(DW-2051) have two pieces of curved rubber, one on each side of the watch, that go under the wristband and curve around your upper wrist area. They take the pressure off of the band so that it doesnt tug at the pins if you snag the watch.

Look at this one here.

You can clearly see the gray nubs on the ends of the wristband (on either side of the g-shock words and on either side of the G logo) This would be better off for you if you are going to be rock climbing.

Peace

I am on my second G-shock. My first one lasted through the hot wet heat of Panama and the dry hot desert of Saudi. I had it about 10 years and replaced the battery once. I should get more life out of my new one since i am not in the air force anymore.

I bought my wife a baby-G for christmas. she loves it. you can set 5 different daily alarms on it, she really loves that feature.
