OK, I am finally gonna bite the bullet and redo my PC. Here is what I am currently using:

Asus P4P800 Deluxe Mobo
P4 3.0ghz Prescott core
4x512 sticks of Corsair Value ram PC3200 (2 gig)
ATI 9800 Pro
5 PATA HDs
1 SATA HD
SB Audigy ZS
AverTV Stereo
Aspire Concord 500w PSU
Promise ATA/133 controller card

I want to go AMD. So I need recommendations on a CPU (64 ready), a mobo that will accomodate what I already have and with a socket that won't be obsolete for a long time and preferably will support dual-core AMD chips.

Also, as Im sure I have to go the PCIE route I need the mobo to have as many PCI slots as possible. DDR2 support would be great but I still need/want to use my 4 sticks of current ram and my PSU so the mobo would need to be able to use 20pin. The more PATA connections the better as I have over a terabyte on my combined HDs, and a stable chipset is a must.

And of course a vid card. My limit is under 1000. I will still be using my Lian-Li case.

I ask you guys cuz I am not up to date on the AMD mobo and socket area but know that socket standards have changed on the AMD front all too often.

Thanks,

MLM

A64 3000+ Venice $150
DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D $125
ATI X800 XL PCI-E ($249) Or Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT PCI-E ($299)

If you want a lower end video card, try a Nvidia GeForce 6800 ($170) or a Nvidia GeForce 6600 ($90).

or the 6600gt for $150. you cant softmod the pci-e 6800. and this all depends on what resolution you are playing on.

You can't softmod a 6600GT either, and it has 8 pipelines...a 6800 comes with 12. The 6600GT was a good value until the 6800 prices dropped.

never said you can softmod a 6600gt. and the two cards would perform around the same results if they were to be played on 1024x768. the higher it is the more the 6800 would be more viable. oh and fix the price of the 6600gt to 160. where do you find a pci-e 6800 for 170?

Nice board but not enough standard PCI slots.

Forgot to mention this. I am a huge gamer, so gaming comes before all else. :)

Huge gamer, then go for the X800 XL or the 6800 GT.

If you want 5 PCI slots, you can't have a PCI-Express motherboard. You can get the DFI NForce3 Ultra-D, which is a 939-pin/AGP motherboard with 5 PCI slots; it's a great overclocking board too.

If you want 4 PCI slots and PCI-Express, get the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum.

My bad, that was for an AGP card. Sorry!

PCI-E cards seem to be 256MB (instead of 128MB for the AGP) and they cost around $230-ish.

OK, ive decided to go with the Asus A8N-E mobo and ATI X800XL. I'm gonna use all the other stuff from my current main PC as it will all work with this mobo, now the hard part.

What freaking version of AMD 64 should I get? I want something that will spank my 3.0 prescott (OC'ed to 3.4) but dont want to spend a fortune.
