Gone In 60 Seconds

I was told today that the Ford Shelby Mustang Gt 500 that features in Gone In 60 Seconds is actually a mustang fastback with a body kit. There are some quite serious differences between the two.... any one know if this is correct?

Oh...reminds me...I snapped a pic of a GT500 that was sitting in front of a Dairy Queen near my dad's place. There was an old 'Vette there, too, and some other older cars but I was stopped at a stop sign and snapped a quick pic.

One SWEET looking car!

The shelby is just a kit you can get I believe. A friend of mine has been planning on building one for a while now

I hope you mean that it's available as a kit now. You do know there were real GT350s, GT500s and even a GT500KR, right?

I saw the Shelby Mustang From Gone In 60 Seconds at the Imperial Palace Hotel in Vegas, they have it on display in their car museum. Damn nice car.

I believe all of them were built. I know 1 was given to Nicholas Cage and another to Jerry Bruckheimer...

Edit:

"Seven Eleanor replicas were made for use in this movie. Five of them were totaled during stunt sequences. Nicolas Cage and Jerry Bruckheimer kept the remaining two. Cage regularly takes Eleanor out for joy rides while Bruckheimer is afraid of driving her"

iirc they had about 15 different mustangs.

they had one they specially built with different cams JUST for sound effects... crap like that

I'll download it from my camera tonight and bump this thread. 🙂

The Mustang in Gone in Sixty Seconds was just a 1968 Mustang GT Fastback with a body kit. Truth be told they wouldnt have been able to buy as many of those Shelby GT500s as they might have needed for that movie with their current pricetags ranging in the low 70s.

Yep. Nic got to be quite good behind the wheel, I remember reading that the Mustang was quite hard to steer/control but Nick was a master at it, granted he's an enthusiast and he and Leroy were required to take classes over at Bondurant

I was there in May and took this picture of the mustang:

GT500

Took that shot a week or so ago. Color setting was off as it was set for flash...wasn't expecting to pass this car on the road 🙂

no I think it's a real GT500 the one they used for stunts might have been what you said.

That last scene would have been a crime against humanity if that had been a real Shelby

I don't see a truck in the picture. You're probably referring to the hood pins - locks the hood in place, usually used in particular with carbon fiber hoods. (Don't know if the replicas had carbon fiber or metal)

it probably is a kit car.. cause they wouldn't willingly wreck a GT-500 mustang... I wouldn't let them... no amount of money can justify ruining an original classic car... IMO

🙂

awesome movie though 😉

It is a replica. Read the thread, Craig 😉

Those are replicas... like everyone said. It's kinda sad how most people now think that a realShelby GT500 actually looks like the one from that movie. 😕
