have been playing with overclocking the rig below, yesterday grabbed and installed the water cooler. dropped idle temps 20c, but unable to enjoy this success because machine now locks up fairly quickly. i have noted that at startup the fans drop noticeably in speed when the pump indicator light turns on, then speed back up after the load passes.
also, someone here mentioned that the two 8600's are power hungry, and altho the old seasonic has not failed me to date, i wonder if the pump/fan load is enough to push this over the edge.
so then the question becomes: up the power supply or go to a single vid card of current vintage?
i'd be grateful for anyone's input. thanks zz03
