i've never heard this before. i have heard of regular and stiff, but never the term firm.

Its in regards to this.

i tried the club out today at the range and i enjoyed it, but my club i hit and what i want is the regular flex. the term 'firm' is throwing me off.

is that another word for stiff or something?

In GOLF shafts firm=stiff.

If you're a golf noob, I would stick go a regular flex shaft, unless you have a high swing speed, which is very unusual for beginners.

im no beginner i would say i'm intermediate. last season i was shooting mid 80's.

however i still have never heard the term "firm" for a flex, thats why i wanted to be clear. my swing speed is like 92-95 (i've used that thing at the range to measure it), so i'm going to go with the regular flex for now.

i was hitting the driver well today.

A firm shaft is the same thing as a stiff shaft, and a strong shaft is the same thing as an extra stiff shaft.

I get by using irons with regular shafts, but I have to use a driver with a firm/stiff shaft or I'll hit the ball way too high.

95mph is border-line.

If you plan on generating more speed in the future (strength training, swing coach, etc.), you may want to try out a firmer flex in a driver shaft. Regular flex will give you more pop, but you sacrifice control, especially at higher swing speeds. If your swing is what it is and you don't foresee much change, regular flex seems like a good choice.

You also may want to get a rough-fit from a shop so you can narrow your search. It really helps if you find the right club/shaft combination that fits your swing (better trajectory, flight path, and ultimately distance).
