Just wondering if anyone has hit these clubs. I saw 2 people this past weekend at the driving range buy them and start hitting them right there. I am left handed and its hard to get a hand on a set to even try out. I am in the market for some new clubs soon and saw some interest in these clubs.

has anyone hit them, and if so, how do they feel?

Agreed. I've demoed the Callaway Big Bertha Fusion irons ($1000 iron set) and those things are pure sex. You can't hit a bad shot with those things.

OP, I've heard some pretty good things about the slingshot irons. Pretty forgiving, good feel. Personally, I'd say you should try to find out when one of the manufacturers has a demo day (try Callaway or Ping) and hit as many different clubs as you can, rather than purchasing based on someone else's opinion. Everyone has a different stroke, so what feels right to one golfer may not work for another.

I have two separate sets of Callaway and Ping. I've been using a set of Callaway frequently but both Callaway and Ping are pure beasts.

Yep...I'm in the market right now for a new set of irons (currently using Ram Concept clubs). I know a lot of people say that a club is a club, but whether it's just a mental placebo or whatever, I always hit better when I demo good clubs. I seriously doubt that it's a complete coincidence.

I demo'd the Nike's at Dick's Sporting Goods (also a lefty, here) and they are nice irons. I will most likely be buying them, but I wanted to try a few others out first. I'm upgrading from a Wilson set, so the difference is huge, to me. I am about 98% sure that I will buy the Nike set. I can't find anything else in the ~$500 range that fits my swing as nicely as they do.

Have you tried the Callaway Big Bertha irons (non-Fusion)? They're around 500-600, and they're really, really forgiving.

Ping G2's are great too, although a tad more expensive.

They actually didn't suit me the one time I tried them...well, not as much as another new set has. one of the two biggest golf mags recently had a huge review of all of the new clubs released in the last year, it was a pretty well conducted review. (don't remember which one it is, my dad gets both mags) They had each category ranked and then also indicated the best bang for the buck club/set.

I've seen both of those reviews. I don't think Golf Magazine reviewed enough clubs (pretty much only one model per each manufacturer)--for example, they only reviewed the Callaway BB Fusion irons, but not the X-tour, X-18, or Big Bertha irons. That's great if you've got a grand to spend on irons, but most people don't want to spend that kind of money.

Golf Digest Hot List. This list is pretty good--the Ping G2s and the Callaway BBs are the highest rated, and I've hit them both. They're both really, REALLY good clubs.

do the majority of places let you actually demo clubs in store? i haven't really asked but I never really saw people demo'ing irons at the driving range or in sports authority, but they must allow you atleast try out something you may spend $500 on.

No, haven't looked at them, yet. I am going to a different golf shop sometime this week so I can try them out. Dick's didn't have any leftys for me to try, when I was there.

The Dick's store in my town has an indoor "range" and the shop pro (use term VERY loosly) will accompany you and allow you to use any of their demo clubs or balls.

Hey Drew, check out mammoth golf, if you haven't. They let you demo clubs right in the store. Mammoth is located right off Snowden River Pkwy, next to the Compusa.

Really? The review that I saw was pretty extensive, they had numerous clubs by the same manufacturer in the same category. Ah well.

I want to test out the Mizuno MP-32s. I heard the feeling's as soft as butter. I never really liked the looks of Callaways or Pings. I know that looks don't mean everything, but they do bring that extra bit of confidence when looking down at a sweet looking club.

I currently own Mizuno T-Zoid True blades. I don't think that I can ever go back to cavity back (I don't know if the Callaways or Pings are cavity or forged).

Unless you're a scratch golfer, I personally think cavity back clubs are a much better option. True, the MP-32s are really great clubs, but for the average golfer (read: high handicap), a game-improvement iron is really the way to go.

I totally agree with you...I'm not even a scratch golfer. I used to own Wilson Fat Shafts, and every shot felt exactly the same with a super high launch angle. I had a difficult time enjoying these clubs. I then tested out the Mizunos, and I was sold. Forged clubs tell you when you don't hit them right.

Scenario getting my 7-iron repaired:

Golf pro: What's your handicap?
Me: About 15
Golf pro: You really shouldn't be hitting these clubs.
Me: But I love the feeling of a pure shot off of forged clubs.
Golf pro: Oh, then nevermind. Enjoy your 7-iron!

The Ping G2's are a very sweet hitting set of clubs. The SlingShots look great, but I haven't hit them. Take a test drive of the G2's vs. the SlingShots then let us know what you think.
