Golfers: i bought 2 new clubs from www.gigagolf.com

they seemed to know what they were doing. i got a Nike Sasquatch type Driver and a Taylormade type 3 Wood.

both clubs cost me $148.00 shipped.

i should get them late next week, i'll report back on how they play.

I wish someone would do a comparison between places like this vs. the retail item they're cloning. have they?

Any other golf clone sites?

I bought a putter off bestbuygolfsupply.com over a month ago. I'm happy with it, I was doing pretty good this morning 🙂

It's the "places like this" thing that's the trouble. Places like that don't manufacture anything, they assemble. They buy heads from a variety of manufacturers and sources, grips from a variety of sources and shafts from a variety of sources. Then they build them to order. Some clone heads are outstanding and are as good or nearly as good as the club they're trying to copy. Others are 4th-rate junk that get the look right while skimping on build quality and performance. They'll often be sold side-by-side and how good a club you get depends on whether you were fortunate enough to pick out one of the good clones or one of the crappy ones. Gigagolf seems to carry heads from Turbo Power and Hireko. I'm familiar with most of the Hireko heads and would rate them as well above average clones. They're actually a hell of a bargain and many perform as well as the original. I have not used much of the Turbo Power stuff, so I'm not sure if they're a good clone, a bad one or somewhere in between.

how are the UST shafts? i got the UST PHG 100 Graphite shaft. in regular flex.

is that a decent shaft?

also, from you post, it seems that the hireko head drivers would be the ones to go with. at $99.00 with the shaft above, that would seem to be a better deal than a $300 OEM club huh.

What's your handicap?

i don't have a handicap.

i just started golf this year really. i mean i used to hit once in a while, go to driving range like 4 or 5 times a year and go out to the field about 5 or 6 times a year.

this year, i've hit the driving range 12+ times since begining of March and have gone out to the field 9 times since beginning of march.

i am starting to develop a consistent swing for the first time and now when i go to the driving range, i have an idea of what i need to do to improve, something i never did before.

i like the driver i chose because i tend to hit my drives better when i T them lower. i bought the fairway wood because i currently don't have a 3 Wood and i want to start using my 3 wood instead of my driver when i go out to play.

to answer your question about my handicap.

i'd say i'm averaging +3 per hole right now. not good obviously.

i am however only averaging 2.5 putts per green tho. that's pretty good.

i just have to improve my driver, my short game is decent and my midrange game is ok.

my driver sux.

UST on the whole makes good shafts. I don't know anything about that particular model though. I didn't say that Hireko are necessarily the ones to go with. I merely said that I've had good experiences with Hireko stuff and that it outperforms it's price tag. With no hands-on play time with the Turbo Power stuff I can't make a comparison between the two. Maybe it's is as good as or even better than the Hireko.

A $300-$400 OEM club is a gigantic rip-off given the price of the pieces that went into it and the quality of the assembly. You can EASILY get a $99 club that's better than an OEM. I've built and used many drivers in that price range that I would happily take into a tournament without feeling like I was in any way disadvantaged against a guy with $3000 worth of OEM stuff in his bag.
