there's another device that's like a huge tilted white circle which you guide your clubs with...that looked like a good swing training aide.

I have a 95 mph swing and can swing the medicus 5 iron without it breaking. just did it yesterday at the golf shop.

If I can only master my driver I couuld stay at 37 or lower on 9. I generally have a bad tee shot get me in trouble on a couple of holes and push to a 40 - 41...

If your driver is getting you in trouble on certain holes, leave it in the bag. Tiger won the british open and only used the big stick 3 times in 72 holes

I know and I do it sometimes. It is just wanting to crush it that keeps me from playing Smart golf. :)

I know:( IMO that is the single hardest thing to overcome in golf. Even the seasoned PGA pros fall victim to this, how many tournaments has Mikelson thrown away because he can't keep his hands off the thunder stick:confused:

I want to learn how to control SPIN! The ball will spin off the green when I don't want it to and other times it hops and rolls too far. Any ideas as to controlling spin?

That's a toughie, lots of things to consider

1. Know and understand the conditions. The two biggest being softness of the green and wind direction. If the green is soft and/or damp the ball will spin much easier. Into the wind the ball will also spin back more. Down wind and/or hard dry greens make it almost impossible to spin the ball

2. Understand how your swing affects spin. Generally two things really effect the spin
a) The harder you swing and follow through the more spin you generate
b) The steeper the angle of impact the more it spins

Tricks to reduce spin:
1. (Dead Hands) - Use one more club than necessary and deccelarate at impact(short follow through)
2. Play the ball up more in the middle of your stance and use a less steep, more sweeping swing, this creates a higher softer shot that will spin back less

Tricks to increase spin:
1. Play the ball back in your stance creating a steeper impact angle
2. Use less club and swing harder with a more aggresive follow through

And last but not least, understand how your lie affects spin. A nice clean lie in a tightly mowed fairway will be much easier to spin, while a ball in the rough where grass will come between the clubhead and the ball will cause a "flyer" or shot with little or no spin
