Golf season comming up - Taylormade R7 quad $199

For any golf fans like me out there:

I just got mine today and it's real sweet. It's last years model and I don't think the website says it but it does come with the r7 accessory pack.

And if you wait a week it'll be cheaper. That's the Taylormade business model. They simply repackage the same clubs with different graphics and replace the current "top of the line" with something new every month. This months greatest club ever for $799 is next months pro shop special at $499, the following month it'll be $299 at Dicks, then $199 at Sams, then $159 at Costco and then free inside a box of Cheerios.

LOL so true. I finally went from an 80's garage sale 7.5 degree driver to an R580 8.5 when they got down to $150. It was a good upgrade, but I don't think that upgrading a year or two later is worth it.

The one at tgw only gives you an option for a 7.5 degree loft though- too bad.

LOL. Unless you consistently shoot in the upper 70s and low 80s, expensive clubs will do nothing for your game.

I dont agree with that statement AT ALL. But i guess it depends on what you consider expensive. I purchased about 700 bucks worth of clubs to replace my elCheapo clubs ($150). I dont shoot in the 70s or 80s but the new clubs made my shots very consistent over the old clubs. Granted it didnt make me a great golfer but hitting more consistent shots has helped me greatly when i try to fix my swing.

You're both wrong. No matter what you shoot expensive clubs will do nothing for your game. Clubs THAT FIT YOUR SWING will help your game, anything else is simply a waste of money. But that's a whole different thread.

Yes, proper fit is important and that includes selecting the proper type of club head, proper length, and shaft flex.

Since this is a Hot Deals forum made up of mostly do-it-yourselfers that build their own computers from parts?building your own golf clubs from parts is a great way to save some money. High quality iron clubheads can be had for about $8 each and shafts are about $6. Add a $2 grip, some glue, grip tape and you are in business. I?ve made lots of different sets for myself and friends and honestly, they are just as good as most of the OEM stuff available ? sometimes better. Learning to fit yourself is easy enough following some basic guidelines. Good stuff as long as you are not a numbskull and buy into all the OEM is better hype. And if you do?you should leave Anandtech and just go buy a Dell.
