golf question - can you use any club except putter on the green

I think by rule you can only use a putter on the putting service (green)

help settle a dispute. I've got 5 bucks that says no other club is allowed, by rule.

But, according the Rules of Golf, there are no prohibitions on the type of club to be used on putting surfaces.

I am pretty sure that's not true. I think you can use any club wherever you want.

Yep, you can use any club. In a PGA event a few years ago, some player got mad enough that he snapped his putter. He had to use another club for the rest of the round.

Seen a PGA game where a guy used a iron on the green, tore up the grass too. Wasn't illegal to do that.

-edit- I coulda sworn that the putter was a "special" club and had certain regulations.

Pay up, you lose. Any club is allowed anywhere. There are many instances of players damaging their putter in anger and being forced to play the rest of the round putting with a bladed sand wedge or even a fairway wood.

heh, I've already handed over the money.

so the ruling is - any legal club, anywhere.

So the question remains....

Must all clubs confirm to the same set of universal rules? hmmm, don't know. I guess so - there is no distinction...it's just a club.
