I was at the driving range yesterday. hit like 300 golf balls.

learned something about my swing.

i only use my arms, almost no body, which is ok for consistency but i'm hitting probably 30 to 40 yds shorter than i could with my longer clubs, woods and longer irons.

also, my driver sux. the shaft is way to soft and flexible. when i get my best swing with good solid contact on the sweet spot of the club i get a fade. basically because of how flexible the shaft is, when i really get a good swing going, the head is just lagging too far behind.

with my new club, the Nike CPR a 26 degree CPR wood (designed to replace the 4 or 5 iron) i'm hitting about 160 to 165 yrds.

you need to use your body. When you use all arms in later parts of a round you will get tired and your shots will be awful.

:)

i taped my swing and was watching it and noticed that i look like the senior golf pros. :)

ya, i'm gonna work on the body part. but my swing is soo consistent right now and if i add the body movement it's gonna take me another couple of weeks to get to where i am now.

god i hate messing with a good swing.

friggin golf. my crowning achievement in this sport was hitting the green off the tee on a par-3. needless to say, i ended up 5-putting afterwards.

Distance varies a lot from person to person, but you may be right when you say that you could be hitting it 30-40 yards longer. I hit my 5-iron about 200 yards, but I've never tried any of the "rescue clubs." I've wanted to, but I've never really looked into it much. I know they're supposed to be perimiter weighted more than an iron, but other than that, I don't know. What makes them so much easier to hit? Club length? The size of the face?

for me, the flat bottoms. i tend to drive my irons to deep into the carpet/ground. the flat bottom similar to that of a fairway wood is what does it for me.

also, can you tell me for sure, i've been told that range balls don't go as far as good golf balls you take out on the course with you do. it's been my experience that i drive about 30 yds farther with a good titanium ball than i do with range balls.

cool. I like those rescue clubs. My fav is my bi-matrix shaft 3 wood (not really a rescue club, just a straight 3) goes about 240 yards.

oh - and if you have a fast swing then absolutely avoid flexible shafts and opt for stiff ones.

ok. i was consistently hitting range balls about 165 to 170 with this "rescue" club. so if i was using good balls on the golf course i would hit another 10 to 15 yds?? plus i'd get a better roll on fairways than i did on the crappy range weeds, right?

Shafts that are too flexible can really mess with your swing. I have had "regular" flex shafts and I have been able to actually feel the shaft flex when I hit the ball before. So right now, I play with stiff steel shafts on my original King Cobra oversize irons and X flex shafts (stiffer than stiff, I swing about 110mph or so with a driver) on my driver and 2 wood. I still have a stiff shaft on my 4 wood though (need to get that replaced). Platinum, how do you like the Nike club. I have heard in the past that they (Nike) had a lot of problems with quality control with their woods. I have never used or had the need for the utility clubs before since I hit a 7 iron about 200 yards.

i like it a lot. it feels really nice.

one nice thing about buying from a driving range (tho you pay more) is you can actually play the club before buying it. i can't comment on nike's quality control, but this club hit very very well.

actually, it's a very nice course. it's one of the nicest public courses in central jersey.

my uncle owns a house in Ga that is on a golf course. (very NICE neighborhood). anyway, wow, the greens there are SPECTACULAR. the roughs are as fast as greens on most of the other courses i've played.

I just read a review on that course, it says it was a crappy place, but the owners are starting to make it alot better.

it has been pretty nice the last 3 or 4 years. the review might be an older one.

it's better than all the other public courses i've played in NJ / PA area.

of course, i've only played like 7 other courses in this area.

If your good shots (when you think the club is square) are fades, then the shaft's too stiff. The more flexible the shaft, the more you'll hook it. (The head lags behind and closes more as you complete the swing. Switch to a stiffer shaft and watch those fades become high slices.
