Golf club question

I'm not a golfer. My friend took me to a diving range last night, and gave me her sister's old, mis-matched (but complete) set of clubs to use. It was my first time hitting a golf ball... ever.

We were on the second tier smacking balls, and I was putting balls out about 100 yards but something just didn't sound right as I was hitting them. After about 30 minutes, the over-sized titanium head flies off leaving me standing there with the shaft. I didn't see where the head went, and I couldn't find it when I went down to the first tier. The place was almost empty, but I didn't go out walking in the grass.

I expect I was either hitting the ball where the shaft and head connect, or I was hitting the ground as I was hitting the ball. In either case, I tore the head off the driver and I couldn't find it. My friend's sister laughed about it, but I feel pretty horrible for breaking the thing. I need to replace it. The grip says Cobra S, and I think I've found the brand on the Web but I need to compare the logo to the one on the grip when I get home.

Ignorant golf questions:

1) Can I get a new head put on this shaft, or is this thing worthless?
2) If I need to replace the driver, does anyone have a clue what I should replace it with? Is this Cobra brand widely available? The sister is a beginner golfer, and she inherited the clubs from an uncle...

Holy crap, where'd this thread come from?

If the head came off the shaft, try going back and see if it was turned in it can be reattached. If the shaft broke, buy a new driver for her.
