Being as I am (was) the foremost proponent of using golden sockets to overclock AMD MPX motherboard, I feel it is my duty to let everyone know that I can confirm that golden sockets impede overclocking attempts over 1800MHz.

Have a pair of XP2100+ TBred Bs, was convinced that something was wrong with one of them to the point of buying another. For the heck of it, started experimenting again today and after some unsuccessful tests that I thought should have been, I decided to use the battery trick to cut a bridge manually. Now both my processors are running 100% stable at 2200MHz.

Could be the fact that the golden socket pins are tin instead of gold-plated, or just the fact that they lengthen the traces too much, or even that the DIP switches induce too much resistance. But, they do impede overclocking.

Just though you all should know.
