Golden orb install question!

At the thermaltake website on second pic for installation,the white square pad is missing at base of Golden orb ,does this stay on or not?,since I want to make sure I do this right,I rather look stupid then get it wrong.
 
The white pad is termal grease-suppose to be fairly high quality. I use it on 3 of my systems-the 3 with orbs. You can of course scrape it off and use any thermal compound you like.
