I bought the golden gate from svccompucycle and this is the first heatsink i'm installing.

What end is the top?!?! Is the top the part of the heatsink with the moving parts of the clip or is the top of the heatsink the part which has no movable parts?

No I'm not DUMB =).

I know the copper part is bottom. I'm talking more about the orientation of the heatsink on the motherboard.

You know how theres the clip that goes through the heatsink. So theres two ends to the clip.

One end has movable mechanism while the other doesn't.

Which end goe towards the top of the motherboard towards the Powersupply.

the part w/ the tab, the hinged part, should line up w/ the part of the socket that's raised.

you know, the little white part that sticks out beyond the cpu and is raised a bit.

if you look at the bottom of the hs, you'll see that there is an indented part.

i hope this helps.

Is this HSF good, I have one coming in the mail but am wondering if I should return it and order the ThermalRight SK6 or the TaiSol CGK760092 instead. If you say the GG then I at least have install info now ;)

My god I'm such an idiot. I see it now. Its square base but its off centered, ie theres more space at the TOP! Stupid me, I must have just taken a quick look and assummed it was centered. Thanks guys.

do I have to use a screwdriver to install it or can I use the force of my hand?

can someone go over to screwdriver movement again so i'm sure on how to do it.

You should be able to install it w/out screwdrivers, unlike the godforsaken Volcano2 (ie. the devil of heatsink installs). Volcano2 is really, really scary, avoid at all costs.

I just installed the GG and it is really easy b/c of the over-sized clip. Only disadvantage of it is that it juts out a bit and starts invading the space of my memory slots. Anyway, just install the first latch making sure the HS is centered, then *firmly* push down on the clip with both thumbs and it should pop right on. Its on there tight...but its not like welded in place like the Volcano2.

I love my GG. It installs really easy and it cooled my P3 enough to actually run at 1.1ghz. Which is nothing short of amazing. I couldn't even get a post with my stupid gorb (which ripped a chunk out of the plastic dealy on my slocket when it came off).

I'm going to install a delta on it to see if I can get the voltage down. I'll just deal with the noise. There's already 4 fans and 4 hard drives in there. One noisy delta isn't going to kill me. It can't be any louder than my Quantum LS powering up, which sounds like a jet turning over.

The GG is a nice cheap heatsink.
