Hello,

I have 3 pcs I want to hook up all in one house (1500 sq feet, one level),
2 are running windows 98 and one is running win 2000 pro.

Currently I have comcast cable and a 4 port wired netgear router, it was super
simple to install and it just "worked" from the moment I plugged it all in and ran
the wires to the other pcs.

Now I want to move some things around and eliminate the wires (and possibly add
a laptop in the future), I also might just trash the oldest pc and have just 2 running
and a future laptop.

I also have an xbox, that I wouldn't mind hooking up somehow (it will be next to one of the
pcs too btw).

I was thinking to get the modem installed next to the tv and pc (so I could hardwire the xbox and that pc)
then get wireless pci cards for the other 2 pcs (the win 98 machines) and or just add a laptop in the future
and remove one of those old pcs if i needed the room or something in the router...but is there an easy way since there will be a pc next to the xbox in general, to run wireless to that pc then somehow run it to the xbox wireless wise too without a ton of extra cost?

Not 100% sure on how all this works, 802.11b or g etc etc and or if it would make much difference to me to go with G vs B, personally i dont network or share files between my pcs, each has a large hd and if I need something moved i just burn it to dvd-rw or something...

My question is if I were to buy say a netgear router like this one on newegg

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=33-122-016&depa=0

what cards would be the best choices for the other 2 pcs (both have available pci slots)...

and is that the right product for me in terms of what I am trying to do (described above).

Thanks for any info and insight, just trying to figure out what to buy, and make sure it is what I need, dont need the wife all mad at me for buying the wrong stuff...

Bill :)

I?m running 802.11b on my lap and the ?net? runs as fast as my desktop. I have been able to d/l 350k a sec but only once, an average it?s 150-200k. The only time you?ll see any difference between B and G is when you are transferring files between computers or playing system intensive games over the net. For you I probably would go with B because it?s cheaper and you said you?re not transferring files. For the computer you want to hook up to your Xbox you?ll want something faster, say G or even better run a LAN line. Hope this helps.
