A few things:

1. Don't drink any opened water, including ice in restaurants. Ask for bottled water that you recognize and haven't been opened
2. Bring quality bug sprays
3. Bring a good quantity of stomach upset medicines of choice.
4. Beware of pickpocketing at ALL times
