Going to Vegas....

Is treasure island a good place to stay? Any alternatives/stories/etc?
vegas noobs.....

Haven't stayed there. I think the Luxor would be good...just because of how the rooms are laid out in the pyramid seems kinda cool.

Staying at a locals casino would be cheaper. Also, make sure to get a slot club card and ask for comps. Thirdly, seek out free stuff. Lastly, the $2.99 prime rib is really not that great.

My son stayed there last time he visisted with some friends. We did not have enough room for everyone.😱

The buffet was not acceptable according to him, my daughter and a couple of others.

If you can get a decent rate; then it is a good place to stay.
There are others on the strip that are more flashy; it all depends on what you want to do inside the room; vs seeing the area.

It is at the north end of the fancy section of the strip.

You could always try out the new Hooters Casino...

We stayed there when it was the San Remo. Great location for Vegas n00bs.

($79 a night... not bad)

If you do not stay at a locals casino, I will be forced to smack you. You can always stay at a locals casino, take a taxi to the strip, and still come out ahead.

the wynn is not the new best? their rooms start in that range.

i stayed in a time share when i went so i cant really give advice on that. i would recommend going to the buffet at paris which is near ti.

ive always found ny, ny to be pretty reasonable, especially considering the location. my friends stayed at ti for the first time this past new years and said it was just 'okay'. i personally wouldnt stay there because i always have bad luck gambling at the casino im staying at and i always seem to tear up ti. ive bankrolled entire trips with winnings from ti. but then i go to luxor and get my ass handed to me.

i have never, ever won at luxor. in fact, i dont think ive even won a hand at luxor. and eveytime i go back and gamble there, i keep telling myself im overdue. the giant sphinx just chuckles when he see's me walking up. damn hotel mocking me...

i remember when me and my family were in vegas when i was young. as i recall the cheapest place was called "Circus Circus." it didn't have the best service or anything like that but as they say, you get what you pay for. but it is on the strip. the luxor was a very nice place as i recall. altho i must say that back then i didn't enjoy it much. can't say i enjoyed all the nudity and boredrom as an 11 year old kid!

Any of the newer/renovated hotels will obviously be nicer than Treasure Island.

I'm talking bout Wynn, Bellagio, Caesar's, nyny, vensian...they will be nicer, but probably more expensive. However, as others have said, there are always discount rates found throughout the week.

The rooms at TI are really nice. They are virtually identical to the rooms at TI's sister hotel, the Mirage, but TI's rooms actually seem a little bigger.

I haven't eaten at the buffet in TI in a few years, but the last time I was there it was nothing special. The Mirage buffet is much better. Kahunaville at TI has some pretty good food (sandwiches, etc.), but the service sucks beyond belief. If you are a patient person who can afford to wait extended periods for your food, your check, etc., then it might be ok.

TI has the Cirque du Soleil show "Mystere", which is my favorite show in all of Vegas.

The casino at TI sucks, and I really can't explain why I don't like it. It is nicely decorated, has plenty of space, etc. but for some reason I just can't stand gambling there. Maybe its because I've never even come close to winning anything significant there.

The really cool thing is that there is a free monorail from TI to the Mirage. When we stay at TI, we spend virtually all our time at the Mirage. Or you could just stay at the Mirage and save yourself the daily train ride.

doesnt matter where you stay in vegas, its just a place to crash at night

I agree. If you are going with a date or something then the room might matter. But for spring break with a bunch of guys you'll probably just be in the room to pass out and shower. I'd spend money on something other than the room. Just get a place that is cheap, decent, and on the strip.

You would probably have a better time staying at NYNY, Grand, Excalibur, Boardwalk or Tropicana. All of those are on the same corner and it's much more happening than TI. There's just more to do on the other end of the strip than the TI/Wynn side.

Also, another thing I didn't like about TI...no poker room. That is unless they've installed one since last July.

Palace Station FTW!

I'm going to Vegas myself March 3-8. We chose the Stratosphere because the normal prices were cheap, plus I managed to get a discount on top of that. It's at the far north end of the strip though, so if stumbling home drunk is on the agenda, you might want to seek out something more centralized.

Ive stayed at many hotels in vegas.
Luxor is not that great, smokey, and small rooms, and elevators are always a long walk to your room.
TI not that good. Make sure not to watch the TI siren's show, very suck.
The Hotel @ Mandalay- One of the best Suite hotels ive stayed at, even got free upgrade to Executive suite. Plasma tv in bedroom, living room. 1 LCD tv in bathroom. 2 Bathrooms total.
MGM grand - not bad, its an ok hotel.
Tropicana - very budgety hotel, its ok for sleeping.
Aladdin - not bad for the price, walls are somewhat paper thin
Mirage - expensive for what you get.
Venetian - overpriced and starting to fall apart. I had to have 3 room changes due to stuff not working in rooms.
Mandalay Bay - one of the better hotels, little bit on the pricier side.
Monte carlo - pretty good for the price, similar to aladdin.
Ballys - not bad also, good for the price
Excalibur - yack, run down hotel, much like circus circus
