Going to the race track today... help me pick a horse!

Our entire company is going to the race track today to have our morale boosted and such...

I've never been, but I'm excited because a) I love horses, b) big buffet, c) open bar. Heh.

I've never betted before, but there will be 3 races going on... I'll probably only bet on the 2nd race.

Here are the horses.

I'll bet on whatever one ATOT picks out for me... I think the name "Bunnyinthebank" is cutest, but he has the worst odds. 😕

Does anyone have any experience when it comes to betting on horse racing? Is there any strategy, or pure luck?

Man...who the hell names these things? Ive seen AT user names that are more creative.

Okay, I'll put $10 on Bone Dog in the 4th race. Does the fact he's running from the 3rd post give him a significant advantage?

I'm sorry, I know almost nothing about horse racing. :brokenheart: It's huge in Hong Kong, apparently (there's always a race on one channel or another), but I never got into it... I'm a gambler though, so hopefully I'll be able to pick this up before the bus leaves at noon. 😀

i picked him because he's not a long shot, but not a favorite either. so if he wins, youll get a pretty good amount. havent been in awhile, usually pick up a newspaper and go to sports section and read what the writers pick, they give some good information on the rider and what the horse has won in the past.

edit: also, it doesnt hurt to spread the money to a few races. bet in a couple.

Bet in a couple different races, or bet on more than one horse in the same race? You're right, I shouldn't put all my eggs in one basket... I shouldn't be betting huge amounts either, just $2-5 each time...

The rizzo report is a little bit confusing, but I'm trying to work through it. 🙂

i don't know about you but they got some weird A$$ horse name

What track are you going to and what race? Best bet is to look at the horses' histories. I don't recognize any of those names, but Strollin' Slew looks like he might be descended from Seattle Slew, a good bet.

Ah, fillies and mares, first race out. I'd definitely take Words in Poetry - trainer is Bob Baffert, excellent trainer and he wouldn't run her unless she was ready and he thought she'd win. He's won several Kentucky Derbys, etc. Tier 1 trainer.

yep. spread it around. thats usually what i do. i usually place a few bucks on each race. if there is a horse that you have complete and absolute faith in, then put a few more bucks on that one. but yeah, $2-5 is a good range. i mean, its your first time betting at the tracks right? and if you do well, you can take that money to the casino and double it! 😀

Okay... I'm off to the track now!

I will be betting on Bone Dog, Words in Poetry and Strollin Stew. 😀

(thanks for the tips, Hatari Chic!)

Barbara Orr won... 🙁 Oh well, it was worth a shot.

I lost about $30 on the horses (after losing $15 in one race, I stuck with $2 bets... won a couple, but my winnings = $0.80 😵 ), but went next door to the casino and won it all back. Ended up about even for the day...
