besides hookers and drugs. Anybody here ever been there? I went 8 years ago when I was 12, but it wasn't really that enjoyable. Now that I'm older I think I will have a much better time. So, any suggestions?

There are some drag queen shows that are suppose to be good. Also the shows of girls using their vagina as storage bin (suppose to be non-erotic since my mom's tour took her there)

When i went (for 3 months) I rented a range rover and drive all over. From Chainmai (sp) to Phuket. Best people in the world IMO.

Might want to check with a doctor on what vaccines/medication you should get/bring (i.e. you don't want to get Hepatitis A and ruin your trip). My friend went a few years ago and said the city of Chiangmai was well worth the visit. She also really enjoyed riding an elephant on some tour. Just remember the food can be realllly spicy- Thai people snack on red chili peppers like they were chips. The people are suppose to be really nice, too- they'll also make fun of you for spending a dollar on room service for a complete meal when you could have gotten it in the market for $0.40. Have a great time- I wish I were going :)

I'll 3rd the suggestion for Phuket. Go lounge on the beach and eat lots and lots of mangosteens (different than mangos).

I'll try to elevate this a bit. I've been in Thailand a number of times over the last 15 years or so. I'm sure everyone else will advise you about the sex shows in PatPong, etc. I'll just say be real careful about that stuff.

In Bangkok the outstanding sights are the major temples, riding the river taxis and, for a day trip out, the floating market and the Rose Garden. Be sure you go to the floating market that is a day trip out. There is one that is close to Bangkok but it is just a tourist trap. The floating market is very commercial now compared to what it was 10 years ago but it's still a great experience.

Chang Mai and Chang Rai in the north are the best chance to see something of the old Thailand. The women are more attractive in the North but they party more in the South. The hill country and mountains are very beautiful.

In the south, Phuket is the major attraction but there are many other resorts areas. There's lots to do besides sit on the beach and in the bars. You can take an elephant trek through the jungle or a cruise on a Chinese Junque around the sea islands including "James Bond Island". Those are highly recommended.

Word to the wise: If you see a hot babe in Bangkok or Phuket, take a second to check for an Adams apple.

w00t! i was their for 2 months last year and I have been there 3 times before that as well.

Things to do, well how long do you have? there is a lot to do so it really depends on your interest. You can head down to krubi and do some snorkeling in the waters down there. Beautiful area, check out one of the many water falls, oh go karts go tor ace those :D. There is a great place to learn scooba diving just north of Samui island.

FUll moon party I have heard of but I have not had a chance to go to that island yet. Oh there is this wonderful restaraunt called San Tip. The food there is sooooo damn good. :) beautiful place to.

oh yeah very true about the ladi boys:Q. It is sometimes damn near impossible to tell

Ya, I'm going to Phuket this time since I missed that last time. I went to Chiangmai last time. That part was actually pretty fun because I liked the train ride up there from Bangkok. And the mountain was actually cool. They had the best shrimp rice soup. mmm. Ya, but I can pretty much request to do anything since my parents know some big ballas in the Thai government as well as really wealthy peeps, things will be taken care of :)

did the elephant thing... did the temple thing... guess it's time for the transexual shows. :/
oh yeah.. what do you recommend as far as getting vaccinations. I didn't get any last time and was fine. thanks for all the suggestions!
To answer Adul's question. I will be there approximately 3 weeks.

Other than the nighttime pleasures of life, I still remember having the best seafood dinner in my life at a open stall fancy restaurant overlooking the Gulf of Siam. This was in Pattaya beach...

The seafood kicked a**!!

Am I the only one that thinks that it's funny that Thailand, a place known for having a pretty striving sex slave industry, has a town named Phuket? Nevermind.. A friend of mine went there for a spontaneous trip and ended up spending 3 years there.. It's cheap (food, cost of living, etc.), exotic, and supposedly the people are very friendly.. Remember the the u.s. $ goes far and don't get ripped off by scammers..

It would be funnier if it was pronounced that way. In the Thai romanization, "Ph" does not become "F". So it's really pronounced "Poo-ket". Several other Asian languages really do not have the "F" sound. However, in Vietnam it is "phuc this" and "phuc that".
