I am planning to spend up to $25k on a 2 to 5 year old performance oriented car around the end of next month, so far I am looking at 03/04 Mustang Mach1, 99 MB C43, maybe WRX, suggestions?

I am really leaning toward the Mach1, but had not considered the C43 'til today, the WRX seems small and the STI is out of my price range.

Not making payments, this will be C.O.D.

On the plus side for the Mach1, there are at least six within 300 miles that are around $20k

The MB C43 is a sedan, which may be handy as my 12 yr old son creeps toward 6' :Q edit: Whoa, I just checked prices within 300 miles and there are quite a few around $16k :Q

I guess I may as well cross thwe WRX off the list right now, too small and I cany get an STI :(

s2000 is too small

Also looked at boxsters, but I need at least an attempt at a rear seat

For that money you can get a new WRX and run it into the ground yourself.

edit: or a used STI :) no not a sexually transmitted infection, but that's for another thread

They start at $28k that is getting a little too close to $30k when I can get an 03/04 with less than ten thousand miles for around $20k

The deluxe's MSRP is just over $25k and you'll get a warranty and the resale value that comes with the newer generation.

30K for a used STI? I know people that get them for close to that price brand new. You should have no problems finding one for $25K

I bet that C43 is a maint. nightmare.

How is the STi too small? It's got a bigger back seat than the Mustang.

For 10k, I can build my own (or pay someone to build one) engine, tune it, and drop it into <insert your favorite car here>. Drop another 8k into suspension, and another 5k for the car and you'll be eating v8's for breakfast, v10s for lunch, and v12s for dinner.

If I were going to buy today, the top contender would be a '99 MB C43 with fourty five thousand miles on it, warranty in effect until 2008 or 100,000 miles, this car is listed at $17,900.00

I will be seriously pissed if there are no good deals to be had when I am ready to buy :|

Popular oppinion seems to be that the MB would be an expensive mistress, what about the Mach1, they are both in the same league as far as HP/TQ but I already have a Mustang(v6/vert) and I gotta think that the interior on the MB would blow away the Mustang.

I have never been inside one, maybe I should do that, looking at them from a short distance or in pictures they seemed small

Hmmm...So I can pay $23k + price of car for that beast....

How much could I get in resale?

C class interior is certainly better than the previous generation mustang, but it's nothing incredible.

An interesting note on the engines in the C43 and Mach1

They are both 32 valve DOHC alu v8

The C43 is 302/302 HP/TQ
The Mach1 305/320 HP/TQ

C43

Horsepower 302 @ 5,850 rpm
Torque 302 @ 3,250-5,000 rpm

Mach1

Horsepower 305 hp @ 6,000 rpm
Torque 320 ft-lbs. @ 4,250 rpm
