Going with my wife from Friday night to Monday afternoon.

Will be staying at the Hyatt in downtown next to the convention center.

Apparently there is a food festival at the local park which sounds awesome so I'm definitely going to spend some time there.

I've done some research on denver.org in regards to the shopping areas and nightlife but it might be nice to get a local's perspective.

I'll be renting a car so we'll have some flexibility in terms of getting in and out of the city.

I love eating, so restaurant recommendations are always welcome. Thanks!

If you enjoy Beer, the Coors Brewery in Golden, or the New Belgium Brewery in Ft. Collins.

If you like water parks and fun, Water World in Highland Hills

Shopping, Cherry Creek area which also has a lot of local restaurants and bars.

Gov's Park, is a good local bar, Sing Sing down by the ball park is also great classy fun, The Cheery Cricket in Cherry Creek also good for lunch and a couple of beers.

The Chop House and Rodizio are also good restaurants. The Bull and Bush is a good pub.

If you've got a car you can also check out the old Pearl St. Art galleries and nice restaurants. Also Gaylord St. in Wash Park area has the Wash Park Grill which is nice as well.

Basically there's tons of places around Denver, too many to name to be honest, I could go on forever.

The food festival you speak of is the Taste of Colorado. They are fairly close to you just off Colfax and Broadway and have a bunch of stalls down there where you can buy food from all different local restaurants. Pretty neat, but a little overpriced. It's probably about 10 minutes walk from where you are.

Also, like someone mentioned, the DNC is on this week, so it will probably be a zoo downtown and might be hard to get to certain places. I believe it finishes today, so you might be safe from all the closures going on.

The usual tourist spots are 16th St Mall, LoDo, Coors Brewery, Boulder, Garden of the Gods, Seven Falls, Pikes Peak, US Mint, Elitches (formerly Six Flags).

My usual favourites for eating in Downton Denver is:
Ted's Montana Grill (love the bison burgers for some reason!)
Gallagher's steak house. Sullivans is not bad either.
Pappadeux is supposed to be very good, although I haven't been there. (for seafood) However, that's a little out of downtown.
Carmines on Penn (not related to the NY Carmines) is good for pasta (it's in the Wash Park area)
You can always try Elways (steakhouse opened by John Elway - there's one at the Ritz downtown and one in Cherry Creek)
Cherry Cricket (hole in the wall bar with good burgers) out in Cherry Creek
Yazoo's BBQ (also downtown but not in the "nicest" area)
Sushi Den in the Pearl St area for sushi (it's a bit of a "trendy" place but the food is good)
Delectable Egg for breakfast... :D There's 2 of them downtown.

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head...

haha..hells yeah! I remember hitting up the Denver diner after a night of clubbing and/or the bars...

Sams No3 is also decent (Curtis & 15th) for diner food. Good food and decent prices.

You might want to check the win percent versus the rest of the league for the last 20 years. I'm betting Denver is in the top 5.

If you are into baseball you can always go catch a Rockies game at Coors Field
