Going to sound deaden my car this weekend

Ordered a 40 sq ft roll of SecondSkin Dampilifier (similar to Dynamat) and should be getting it tomorrow. Going to start on this project this weekend. Planning to do all four doors, underneath the back seat, rear deck, and whatever is left for the trunk and trunk lid. This is in preparation for a 1500w system I'll be putting in soon.

I'll post pics later.

Damn. Thats a lot of work. Do you think 40ft will be enough?

Definitely one of the most useful 'mods' you can do to your car.

I sense some sarcasm in there. No?

I hope so but if not I'll ditch the rear seat and use that for the trunk. I think the trunk will need it the most. Everyone who has done it says it's a night and day difference before and and after so it should be worth it.

i saw a guy in a 70's/80's Chevy sedan the other who was bumping his "beats." the loudest sound by far was the sound of his car rattling like it was going to explode. you could clearly see every body part from the rear axle back vibrating, including the bumper, trunk, fenders, window, etc. that's classic american car design for you, there. 😀

Yeah, the license-plate rattle is a classic sign of someone who bought their sound system to try to impress others, not enjoy good music themselves.

My 1996 Toyota Avalon is nearly impossible to hear with the windows up. Down too. I did the test.

Dropped off the g/f and drove 200 yards the other direction.
Rolled down all 4 windows.
Increased the volume until it was at my preferred "high" volume. This is loud, but not crazy loud.
I accelerate towards her at 15-20 mph and she never gives the signal that she heard the music.
Repeated 3 more times.
She never heard it...

If it's just the stock system the sound will not travel very far. It's the bass from subwoofers that can be heard from blocks away.

I thought the GS's were already pretty sound proof. I took out the stock sub in my 01 GS and put in two 12's and it doesnt hit as hard as it did in my old car. Though if you sit in the back seat its not bad. I guess the sound just doesnt travel too well in the GS's.

Yes, they are when compared to cheaper cars but still plenty of room for improvement especially if you're putting in a sound system. What is choking the bass is the back seat on the GS. I've tried with and without the back seat installed and the difference is night and day.
