Its Newport, you never really have to drive far to go anywhere.

However, now sure how much of the Cliff Walk you are going to do. The Full Cliff walk starts at First Beach
(Easton's), and Ends at the start of the Ocean Drive. You will actually see the Breakers on your walk.
Most people don't actually do the whole thing as the end of the Cliff Walk tends to be just rocks vs a path.

You could in theory park your car at first beach, walk the cliff walk all the way to the Breakers, get off, (there is a street exit right after the Breakers), visit the Breakers, and walk back to the beach.

I'd say there's a good chance I might do something similar to this. You didn't say much of First beach in your earlier post tho'. From what's described, is Second beach not that far away either, and a better place to visit?

Hehe, yeah, it's been many years since I was in RI. I lived in Middletown next to the Navy housing until I was 10 and visited for a week when I was about 16. That was 14 years ago.

At the time I lived there my dad worked for Univac and worked on something computer related in the submarines, so he was able to take me some places that normal tourists weren't able to go by knowing officers and whatnot.

Can't visit the Twinkie factory in Natick anymore, it was closed down a while ago. Plus the Carvel factory is no longer in Framingham. Last time I checked it was moved to Marlborough.

First beach can be nice, but it is know for getting red tide every so often. When its like that, you aren't going to want to go there. I know people that go there and like it. Myself, I go tend to go to Gooseberry Beach, then again, I grew up on that beach when I was a child, so I do have some bias.

Newport, RI Google Map

First Beach (Easton's) is right where Easton Bay. Second Beach (Sachuest) is where Sachuest Bay is. As you can see Second Beach is also bigger. Some people like that. It is however not what I would call walking distance to the Cliff Walk. Its doable, and I've done it, but its over 2 miles, pushing 3 miles. The walk isn't flat either. The Cliff walk starts at the west end of First Beach.

Also as a note: you need to walk the cliff walk no further than Ruggles Ave to get to the Breakers.

Breakers Location

Those where good ole days. Ever since 9/11 the Navy Base here is considerably more tight. Knowing people can still get you places that others cannot see. Its just nowadays, that person needs to be alot more important.

Also, they still do alot of the underwater warfare research and development there.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I had a great weekend in RI. I got stuck in the traffic northbound on I-95 unfortunately (boxtruck overturned, resulting in fatality in Groton, Conn.).

Stayed at the Hotel Providence which was great. The Black Repertory had a parade that was fun. Waterfire was ok, but at least got people out and about. Got a few free drinks from some company promoting something. Hemenway's was awesome.

Newport was very cool. Easton Beach had perfect weather. Did the Cliff Walk and decided to go into Breakers and it was unbelievable.

Good time all around.

Natick, MA used to have a Hostess and Wonderbread factory but it shutdown and got overwhelmed by a giant mall and shopping area.

Glad you enjoyed it, went by Easton's Beach on Sunday and figured you were in for good weather.
