Going to reformat computer, xp home vs xp pro x64 edition

So I've decided I'm going to reformat my computer next week as its been running sluggishly for a few months now. I'm currently running xp home and have no problems. However, I got a free copy of Xp Pro x64 at a Windows/AMD conference they had last year. Now, I'm stuck with the predicament on which to reformat my computer with. I'm going to wait till at least SP1 to buy vista, but I'm worried that the Xp Pro x64 will have many problems xp home doesn't. I've heard horror stories about incompatibility between programs/lack of drivers. Should i just stick with xp home or should i go for xp pro x64? Thanks

If you don't have 4gb of ram or more then stick with 32bit xp. There a few issues just like there are with vista but I run xp 64 and it runs very stable more stable then my 32 bit edition one did. I have all my drivers and al my software runs perfectly fine. But there will be no real use unless you have 4gb or more of ram. If you have no problem with xp home sitck with it. However if you do choose to go down the road of xp x64 find your drivers first so this way there will be no trouble down the road. Hope that was helpful.

If you have a clean drive, why don't you install and try the 64bit version. You don't have to register or activate for 30 days, which effectively means you can give it a darn good test without commiting to the software. This includes multiple installs on totally different computers, just as long as you only end up with one when you activate.

When I got my Vista version, I ended up doing three installs before finally getting one I liked. I made sure I didn't activate before I was ready. BTW, the first install was an incredibly buggy upgrade to my XP install. The second was a clean install. The third was after I decided to keep a version of XP on my computer, on a second drive, and thus wanted to wipe out the vista and install it again after installing XP.
