Going to play Crysis again, which mods should I get?

Last time I played Crysis was with Winxp (32), c2d, and 8800gs.

Now that I finally installed Win7 (64) on SSD, (and with mild upgrade on components over the years, c2Q and HD6850), I want to see what has changed :).

When I played it before I remember I had to tweak many of the settings and didn't use any mods. I realize I still probably can't run max settings smoothly, but what are the essential mods/tweaks I should get for best visuals?

I am downloading the 2gb texture update pack, anything else?

does this game use quad core? i forget.:ninja:

Some issues I had.

#1. it wont run in win7 - 64bit . just black screen and crashes. fixed with running it in vista compat mode with admin on.

#2. after installing few of those mods, the attack vehicle (basic jeep with gun on top) seems corrupt, they are all missing bodies or wheels. any idea?

#3. Ati card seems to have issue with display if you are using HDMI. it has black border around the screen in full screen. fixed by alt-tapping several times.

Silent's High-Res Foliage
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4AQGT5J8

Silent's HD grass

Rygel's Texture Mod (this is probably the one you DL'd, but just in case...)
http://www.fileplanet.com/194825/190000/fileinfo/Crysis---Rygel-High-Texture-Mod

You ned to apply a fix to the Rygel pack:
-Open zzTexturesupdatepart1.pak (you can use WinRar or 7-Zip)
-Browse to Objects/natural/Bushes/RoundLeafBush and delete Leaves_a.dds

If you don't do this, a lot of trees will look like they don't have leaves in the distance.

Shotgun and FY71 Texture Pack (this really makes the AK look great)

HD Rock Textures

Xigmatek's extreme particle effects (cool explosions, fire, etc..)
http://www.mediafire.com/?b6m7ysompkp4ep4

Xigmatek is a particle effects madman.....check out this video to see some of the awesomeness:

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT MOD is the XZero's POM AF shader pak which replaces the stock shader pak. Unfortunately since CryMod's database has been down forever I can't find a dagum link to it anywhere. Let me know if you want and I'll just email you the .pak file. Believe me....this mod is very important!

If you need any help with any of these just let me know..........most of these are just .pak files that you simply put into the Crytek\Crysis\Game folder.

There's also, as you know, a TON of custom tod's, mods, and skins for this game, but I only listed the ones I use the most. Once you start putting this stuff together (and dl'ing some of the custom maps) you'll realize just how capable CryEngine2 was. They didn't push it NEARLY as far as they could have, despite how system intensive it was (and still is) at the time.

Thanks string, I will try all of those for sure. but it seems there are more issues to fix for now.

I reinstalled it, and first 64-bit wont run, just black screen and crashes to desktop.
this is after the 1.21 patch.

Fixed it by running it in compat mode and in admin, but now it has these black borders in full screen mode that I can't get rid of.

I guess I have to deal with this first, I wanted to play a bit in un modded settings before I put the new stuff in for comparison.

but its still kicking my system's butt. getting 24fps avg on 2nd cpu test mode an all highest settings with no AA.

Marked for later. I never played Crysis since when it came out I was running a x2-3800 with an 8800gts. Which at the time was a decent setup, but still was eaten for breakfast by Crysis. Now the rig in my sig should do a lot better :p

Is this zz_GlobalAmbientLighting_pom_Af.pak, or a larger file that substitutes for Shaders.pak in the original Crysis installation?

Yes - it is that .pak file.....and if I remember correctly, you need to delete the ShadersCache.pak file when installing this, as well as the Shaders folder at Documents/My Games/Crysis so that the shaders will re-compile.

I still like to jump into a custom map or play though the game every now and then....just to remind me how jaw-dropping a game designed in 2007 can actually be.

HOLY SHIT

Ok, why the hell do explosions in modern games NOT look that good??? This video makes BF3/Crysis 2 look like cartoons.

No kidding, huh? He has a lot of videos up worth checking out. XZero has some pretty neat stuff up as well.

Thanks for the links. It's been a few months since Crymod suddenly disappeared into thin air, and I've never managed to find another good place to download mods. This thread is a big help.

CryMod actually just turned into "CryDev," but for some reason it's taking them forever to get their download database back up......making it hard to find a lot of this stuff.

How do I get the texture pack to work. I put the files in the right folder but the game doesn't look any different.

Hmm...you shouldn't have to do anything to get it to work.

The two files are zzTexturesupdatepart1.pak and zzTexturesupdatepart2.pak just to make sure we're on the same page.

You might try deleting the "zz" in the front of the filenames to bump it up the list of .pak files (this is usually only needed if you're running other modded .pak files and you want this to load first, but you might try this).

Found a couple mirrors -
http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/1014933-guide-crysis-mods-56k-warning.html (Warning: tons of giant images in this thread. It has an alternate link for the High Res Foliage, HD Grass, and new nanosuit: http://www.2shared.com/file/K1wQgVxX/Crysis_-_mods.html )

The Shotgun and FY71 Texture Pack link is fine (should be hotfile as noted above).

Haven't found a mirror for the particle effects yet. I need to replay Crysis at some point too with all these mods, and now that I have a better video card.

Edit: The youtube video has a working particle effects link -
http://www.mediafire.com/?m3r1f4p7ed18v6r

This should be the POM AF pak that was mentioned -

Thanks for tracking those links down.......ever since CryMod revamped its been really hard to find these files.

If anybody can't track down any of these files just drop me a pm....most of them are fairly small .pak files I can email.

I don't believe any of these requires making an autoexec.cfg file....and run stuff as high as you want, or can.

However: A note about the Xzero Pom AF mod -- you need to delete the ShadersCache.pak file in that folder, AND you need to go to Documents/My Games/Crysis and delete the Shaders folders.
When you start up the game, don’t load a saved point – either start a new game or use the console to load up a level (let me know if you don’t know how). When the game starts, don’t freak out if you basically see a bunch of blank textures and objects…..the shader is recompiling and that takes a bit.

I donno if I did something wrong, but I think deleting shaderscache.pak will disable ALL shaders. After I did that, It was just blank screen with HUD no matter how long I wait.

but after I put the shaderscache.pak back, it did reload the textures.

but with all the texture mods, my system is choking again when I look at the ocean and fire at enemy boats :D

Ok, so it's absolutely necessary that I DON'T load a previously saved game? Even after deleting the shaderscache.pack and the shaders folders? If so, how do I load a level? I'm near the beginning of the game, just after investigating the KPA command post and going up to the communications post thingy.
