Going to pla WoW in a brand new server

Ok so I've been playing for about 4 months with a blood elf hunter and I have skinning and leatherworking (370).

I'm going to play in a brand new realm where everyone will start from scratch, I'm going to play a hunter again, this time a troll so I'm trying to decide which professions are better considering that everything is brand new (economy will take a while to take off), doesn't interfere with my leveling and preferably with my hunter tracking, which I'm highly dependent on.

I'm thinking about getting leatherworking again because killing beasts for the skins also help me level, or engineering to make me some decent gear, but I heard it is expensive and mining would interfere with my tracking.

Any wow experts willing to give an opinion?

Seriously, why is tracking so important? It's awful and annoying in my opinion. If you want to find mobs to kill, look around (mouse turning ftw).

Depends what you want to do end game. I levelled my latest char (druid) with skinning and mining, then switched to JC and Engineering at 70. But that's because I had excess gold lying around and could afford to powerlevel them. Personally, I'd go mining and skinning again. Lots of money to be made on new server. :)

You have to look at the professions and the fact that you'll have no excess gold at your disposal. I originally transferred off Lightning's Blade Alliance and went to Alleria, but since my friend and brother both play LB Alliance, I made a warlock there (note, that I also have a 70 Undead Rogue there on another account as well). I originally took up Enchanting and Tailoring, as they're two fairly good professions for a caster. Well, enchanting ended up being difficult (I do have a high level enchanter on Alleria) and costly, so I dropped it for Herbalism and now I'm rolling in gold.

But, of course Lightning's Blade is also a release server... so there's tons of gold floating around. Herbalism is pretty much only used for Alchemy, so that limits who will want to buy your materials... but what about mining? Mining is the support profession for Engineering, Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting. Engineering also tends to require just about any gathering profession's stuff though :p. So, in other words, I think Mining's spoils will be in the most demand if anything... just make sure you sell as ore and realize that JCs cannot prospect green ore, so those can be smelted.

Hunter tracking only useful for named mobs and pvp. Starting on a fresh server is also a sign of approaching senility. And if you aren't positive (and maybe even if you are) you should take 2 gathering, mining and skinning probably for your huntard.

I use it mainly because my favorite activity is world pvp and find it very useful for pursuing and not getting caught with my pants down :p

I hadn't considered getting two gathering professions but now that you mention it, it's an appealing idea.

Think I'll be doing mining and skinning :) so it's more profitable to sell ore instead of smelted stuff? I'm still somewhat of a noob.

Exactly, I want my tracking for pvp, and what do you mean with senility? I've been playing this game for a short time (about 4 months) and I'm not too old in real life ;)

Yes, but only when the ore is "white ore" (as in the name has a white color to it... also called "common"). These ores can be prospected by Jewelcrafters to get gems and can also be smelted to get bars by the other professions (note that Jewelcrafters sometimes use bars too). So, selling common ore as ore allows all three crafting professions to get the most use out of it. "Green ore" (also known as uncommon) cannot be prospected and therefore should simply be smelted and sold as it is only useful in bars. I think the only thing you may not want to smelt is Lesser Bloodstone Ore... since you can't smelt it anyway :p (it's used for a quest in Booty Bay only).

Everything that is bad about WoW, becomes exacerbated on a low pop server. If enough don't transfers over then the server goes dead and stays low pop.

I believe this new server will not have transfers for the first month or two.

If you're going to level engineering - then you should choose mining.

I recently rolled on a new server and it was pretty hard to get started. Everyone was new, no one had any gold so things were being sold on the AH for a few copper. I took mining and skinning but really didn't make much money from either for a few months. I made most of my money by buying low and selling high on the AH.

On the server I played, Herbalism earned a lot more money than Mining because everyone and their grandmother was a miner. Contrary to popular belief, herbalism is actually required for all professions (many high end recipes in all crafts often require alchemy materials, all of which require herbalism materials).

I hate huntards, but if I had to make one I'd probably pick leatherworking and skinning.

Keep in mind, you can always switch in the end-game if you want. I eventually converted mining+jewelcrafting into enchanting+jewelcrafting at 70 once money was no longer an issue (actually enchanting made me more money than anything else, but it was a money sink at first).

Nope, no more wow for me, I'm not even interested in the expansion; I'll read up on some of the new lore and that'll be that.

The only thing I ever find myself getting from my alchemist/herbalist or my herbalist/skinner is fel lotus and that's for making the herbalist bag on my tailor.
