It looks like the best option for me because I think I'm going to sell off my rigs and go with a lappy for my main machine. I need it to be able to game though, hence the 9600 pro.

It will be configured thusly:

UPDATE: Here's what I ended up buying,

P4M 2.8 GHz 800FSB w/HT
1 Gig PC3200 RAM
60 Gig 7200RPM HD
Radeon 9600Pro 128MB
Dual LiIon Batteries
15"SXGA+
Integrated Wireless 802.11G
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
Standard Paint

~$2250.00

Sager 5680S Model

what do you guys think? Anyone own a Sager and have any comments? Thanks,

Thanks, those are decent forums but I get a rage3d type feel about them, you know? There isn't a ton of dissenting opinion there. Usualy that's why I'll post here to get a more unbiased view.

Those look like great forums once I've made my buy though. :)

Agreed, actually that one is with the 800mhz bus. I was just stating the rated memory speed. I really think this thing is going to fly! :)

Try over at Hard OCPs forum...

From what I've seen most people who own Sagers are very happy with them.

I wish my D800 had that kind of power, but I needed more battery life than the Sagers offer.

Battery life on the Sagers look abysimal, but I'll get a secnd battery that can be used in a dual use config, which is almost a requirement for these lappys.

I'm looking at getting one of these really soon, but I'm holding off ordering because of the price drop of P4's. Hopefully this will drop the prices at pctorque a bit. I'm looking at getting almost the same specs except i'm getting the 5680S. With this being a desktop replacement, I wasn't expecting the battery life to be great, because I wanted performance first. Just a piece of advice, my bro just bought one and he and I compared the SXGA+ and the UXGA screens and the UXGA's are much sharper and much more clear. You may want to spend the extra $95 to upgrade it.

I just ordered a sager 8890, woot. This is more a desktop with built-in keyboard/display than a laptop. :p

The 8890 is a sweet machine, but I just couldnt afford it with all of the options I wanted. The remote idea is really cool. Either way, let us know how oyu like when you get it. Also if you dont mind me asking, how long is the shipping time going to take from the time you ordered it until the time it should be at your door? I'm just wondering because I have to plan my ordering time around a busines trip and would like to recieve it around the time I come back. Thanks.

I've had a 5660 with a mobility 9000 and a P4 3.06 for a few weeks now. I love it. It's surprisingly fast for a laptop, and it's a blast to be able to game on the go. I spent six solid hours in Denny's last Saturday night deathmatching in various games with a buddy and his older Dell, it was so, so much fun. Overall I'm really happy with the Sager. I'd advise the extended warrenty when the first year is up and go ahead and find a better case.

:)

When you compare the screen up close, the UXGA blows the SXGA+out of the water. Not to mention that the UXGA can run 1600x1200 and the SXGA+can run at 1440x1280 (or something close to that). For $95 its definately worth it. Also thats the wide angle screen which allows you to view the screen from a bunch of different angles and still have the picture look nice. Not functional for playing games but maybe for watching movies.

on the 5680, the uxga is much nicer than the sxga.

it is a much closer battle on the 8890, though(different panels than on the 5680). The 8890 uxga doesn't have wide viewing angles like the 5680, which is an issue for some people. On the 8890, it is believed to be the same uxga as on the 8887. There are a few people on sagerforums who had a uxga 8887 before an sxga 8890, and greatly prefer the sxga.

On the 8890, there is a 1-2week wait for the sxga right now, plus I ordered a custom paint job, so I don't expect to see it anytime soon. I'll post pics and a review eventually. I'm replacing a Toshiba 5205-S705 with this machine.

I decided to go with the sxga+ screen, but now I'm having buyers remorse. Oh well, I'm sure I'll love the screen either way! :)

I've not seen or played with a UXGA screen personally, that native resolution being so high worries me though.
Running this 15" SXGA+ at it's native 1400x1050 is perfectly fine in windows, I can't see 1600xsomething being usable, with my eyes and seating habits atleast. Gameing is another thing, unreal trouny comes to mind, which actualy has a 1400x1050 resolution setting. At anything else it's *fuzzy*, not dramatic, but very noticible in menues and some in the game. At 1400x1050 it's so crisp it could cut you(not to mention fast :) )

Just a little help for buyers remorse maybe? You'll still love it.

Hmmm, actually I had 1600 x 1200 in mind as a reason not to get the uxga. Strain on the eyes and also because the next gen. of games will not be playable at that res with all the eye candy on, IMHO.

I can't wait for it to get here. :)

If you can hold off for a month or two.... you will probably have more M10 Pro systems to choose from. :)

ordered from pc-torque, think there is at least a 2 week lead time on the sxga+ screens, and another 2 weeks for custom paintjob. I'll be lucky if I see it by the end of october.

yeah. 8890, p4 3.2, dual 7200 rpm drives in raid zero, bracket in 3rd bay for 3rd drive(I've got one of those 7200rpm drives already that was going into my toshiba before it disappeared), SXGA+, gig of ram.

The tosh I had was CASV wuxga, and was a sweet screen, it just was so much different than the other panels I'm forced to look at all day, I usually ended up with eye strain from switching between my work panels and my laptop. Too much glare off that glossy screen too, at least where I sat. Speakers+sub kicked ass on that notebook too, will probably miss that the most. I wear headphones most of the time anyways, so no biggie.

I ordered high gloss black paintjob, will be 'decorating' the lid with something special. :p Looks like the default color is a really dark grey, almost black, I'm thinking the paint job will look much better, at least in terms of 'cool' factor.

The toshiba was always garnering attention from my coworkers, be interesting to see what they say when I park a 12pound sager on the desktop, lol, one faster than any other pc on this floor.
