Going to PL's in Brooklyn tonight for my brother's birthday. This is the first time I will be going to that restaurant in about 15 years but I've been to the great neck location a couple years ago.

Mmmmmm steaks and bacon and creamed spinach. I'm skipping lunch today so I can make a pig out of myself.

Haven't been there in such a long time.

My friends went there recently and said that the quality wasn't as good as it used to be, however.

Let us know how it is!

I don't think I'd eat at any place with "Peter" in the name.
Just saying.

yes, be sure to get the bacon. saw nicholas cage last time I was there, though I heard he is broke so maybe no more dry-aged prime porterhouses for him!

Sorry I didn't post earlier but I got really busy. The food was excellent. We started off with a house salad, tomatoes, shrimp cocktail and some sliced bacon. Of all of those appetizers the bacon was outstanding - the others were just ok.

For dinner we got the steak for 4 along with the German potatoes and creamed spinach. The steak was cooked perfect - medium rare and the spinach was amazing. The bill ran about $400 with tax and tip for 4 people so it was very expensive but was well worth it. Still the best steak I have ever had.

Nice, I haven't been to PL in a couple of years (I don't live in NY) - but you know, I've actually moved past bacon at steakhouses. I don't know why, but I'm hardly ever surprised or even satisfied with the $20 side, so I tend to go with other more unique offerings.

Anyway, thanks for the pictures and making me drool. I haven't had steak in like 6 days, it's horrible!

I live in Brooklyn and ADORE Peter Lugers. The Great Neck location is great too, especially since it's easier to get reservations there.

I used to think they were expensive until I realized that prime/aged meat is expensive as hell - best steak I've had, though I look forward to trying more steaks in Cattle country (yeah to in-laws from the mid-west)

The bacon wasn't priced bad. I think it was $3/slice and it was really big enough. I forgot to mention that the $400 price did include a bottle of wine, desserts and coffee.....still expensive but oh was it worth it.

heh, i've been to Peter Lugers around 3 times since arriving here to NY last year. The steak is amazing, and I personally prefer the Rib Steak (ribeye) over their steak for ## (porterhouse). Definitely head and shoulders above any other chain premium steak houses (eg Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Houston's). And beefsteak tomatos with Luger sauce is sort of a daily snack for me now :)

There are of course many other amazing steak places in this city, including Ben and Jack's, Wolfgang's, Smith and Wollenski, and a few more, but none quite has the charm that you get at Luger's.

$400 for how many people? Four? That's pretty damn good! I'm usually pretty happy if I get out for $100/head. But you always know going in that you're going to be spending a considerable amount so it isn't that bad.
