Thinking about doing some panos. Need a spot where I can get a nice entire cityscape, arch and all.

EDIT: I'm going to take a wild ass guess and say Front St. across the river in Illinois?

It's St. Louis. Stay in East St. Louis for the shot and bring a buddy along, lest you want your 30D to go byebye.

I stopped for gas once in East St. Louis once around 10:00 pm (was running on fumes).

It wasn't that bad. I mean the 30 guys hanging out in the gas parking lot staring at me didn't detour me from pumping about about $2.00 in gas and leaving.

I felt very welcomed.

is that where they asked for directions in national lampoon's vacation?
they seemed pretty friendly and helpful. and, that was 25 years ago. i'm pretty sure it has only improved since then. ;)

Hey, he wants some panoramic pics of St. Louis skyline, and the only place to do that is on the East side. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem doing it, but I would take precautions and bring a friend along.

Just go to the Casino queen, its on the east side, directly across the river from the St. Louis riverfront and arch, etc. It's a secure parking lot lol...

Well, I did a quick daytime recon of the East St. Louis section (Front St., as I said in the OP). The train tracks and stuff. I actually didn't like the vantage point because there was like a big long walkway for a shipping company in the river that gets in the way of the view. That and the place didn't look too nice, there were a ton of bugs, and everything that I own is in the car for my trip to Phoenix.

The walkway would have been the best vantage point, but it had no trespassing signs at the entrance, and no one to ask to see if it was ok to go.

I ended up taking the picture from the bridge... it's to the south of the Martin Luther King bridge? So the arch was on the left an the city was on the right. Not the best shot though because the arch was dark. I thought that it would have been lighted better...
