My Config

Please comment on everything on the configuration. The notebook is a HP ZT3xxx series. I need 1920x1200 because I play poker online and 1200 for width is needed. My main concern is the high price of this notebook, although I think it is worth it, it should last me a very long time. Should I wait for the new centrinos to come out and bump the prices down?

Also, I'm getting an extra battery, I can take out my cd burner and have two batteries in the computer at once for 8+ hrs right?

For ~$2000. I think that's way too good of a deal to pass up. Despite it being heavier/clunkier it will be far and away much much much faster than the HP/Compaq for only $200 or so more. Plus it has dual batteries which I found out the X1000 cannot do.

have you considered the Fujitsu N510...it has a 16in screen res 1400x 1050...it is the most beautiful screen you will ever see on a laptop
This is a desktop replacement:
P4 3.0 ghz HT 800fsb
768 mg ram
60 gb 7200rpm hdd
64 mg radeon 9600 non pro
dvd/cdrw drive
802.11g
winxp pro
$2040 from Portable One they guaranteed no dead pixels for no extra cost(if you ask and will check before shipping..they have 0 dead pixel policy too)...they upgraded base config to 768mg ram and hdd..they are an authorized fujitsu reseller and there is a $100 rebate off the price above

it is heavy at 10lbs

I would suggest looking at fujitsu website..they are expanding the use of these awesome screens

http://www.fujitsupc.com/store

look here for screen pics..not my machine...

I would think that the eMachines M6809 is a much better deal than that dell. More memory (512) but not as much vid mem (64). But it does have all the other bells a whistles and for $1400 you can't go wrong. Only thing is you have to wait for multiple rebates for the $1400 otherwise its more like $1550 which is still much cheaper than that dell. Im typing on a M6809 right now and I love it. Best money I ever spend if you ask me. Only thing I did was upgrade the 80gig 4200RPM drive for a 60 gig 7200RPM so now it hauls A$$.

I'm planning to buy a laptop soon as well and I'd help choosing one. Since I'm not buying online it cuts out any dells and other online deals out there. Here Futureshop appears to have the best selection so I'll probably buy from there. Pick on out of their online store (remember, Canadian prices!) and I'll see if it's availabe here. I'd like it to be widescreed but will go with a 4:3 screen if need be.

Thanks for any help. :)

I second the notion of checking out the Sagers (www.pctorque.com is my personal recommendation). Just bought an 8790 in March. Love it. Heavy, but has absolutely everything.

As for Future Shop, I bought my first laptop (Fujitsu) from them. I had so much trouble dealing w/ them, I'll never buy anything from them again EVER.

Also, the link for the pics of the Fujitsu N-series above is www.talknotebooks.com (forum run by PC Torque: aforementioned Sager/Acer reseller). As for the Fujitsu screen, it is absolutely beautiful. Outperforms the Sony Xbrite, too. They look pretty similar side by side, but if you change the resolution, the Fujitsu holds up while the Sony starts getting jaggies on fonts/icons.
