I am going to get a PIII 700E and slocket, right now I have a Cel 300a OC to 505
using a home made half inch thick (each) cold and hot plate peltier sandwich with a globalwin dual fan heat sink that keeps the thing at a decently cool temp.
Question, is there any way I can hook up my existing HSF setup to a slocketed FCPGA
PIII 700E ??? (I have zero experience with slockets)

Things were a little hectic over the holiday so I will put this up to the top again,
maybe someone here with more experience will help me out, thanks.

Remember that the core of a P3 FC-PGA is much much smaller than a 300a's, I think you're going to run into problems fitting the peltier on a slocket. By the way, use the MSI 2.3 slocket, it's the best.

Thanks, yes I've seen that the core is smaller. I am using a cold plate between the cpu and the peltier tho so that is what faces the cpu core. What I was wondering is if any of the slockets have the holes through them at the same places as a slot one cpu so I could hook the whole thing up. I don't think I'll have any trouble getting the cold plate up against the core, if it's the thing that sticks out farthest when the cpu is plugged into the slocket. This is another thing I do not know however, is the core the thing that sticks out the farthest when the cpu is plugged into the slocket?

well,

were in the same boat...- not really but sortoff......

i don't think the ss bios- the one i also got....
which is in fact the 1.0 version supports the pIII700....

i could be wrong.....

but as far as abit's site show's it only goes upto 600 for the PIII....

http://www.abit.com.tw/english/download/bios%20update/bios-bh6.htm

the ss bios- 1.0 motherboard is a little scroll down...- need to scroll to that version..

Yes, but I've seen more than a few posts in the 'for sale' forum with people doing it on this mobo so I Think it will be ok. If not I will get a new mobo too!

Wiz:

The two best slockets, the MSI and the Iwill do not have the holes you need to mount the peltier. Sorry.

Thanks for the info acroig.
I have an MSI and an Abit slocket winging their way to me now, so I will be able to see what I can do with either of them.
Passign: Does the Abit slocket have the four holes in it like the Slot 1 P3 / Celeron cpu did?

Just one more thing Wiz. I understand that you are trying to get maximum cooling for a great overclock (I assume), two things to remember if you're after a high overclock:

1) CPU cores (meaning whether it's a new stepping like the cC0 or and older one like the cB0) and,

2) The right slocket. The MSI generally will post and overclock CPU's that other slockets (including the Iwill) will fail to post. My Iwill took my old 500e to 143FSB while the MSI took it to 150FSB reliably.

If you're not trying to overclock that P3-700, then any slocket with the standard Intel HSF will do the trick.

Hope this helps :)
