Going to lose my Exchange server email soon, what are other options?

Hello,

I currently use Zimbra web access from my school and it is amazing. I really like being able to sync all my contacts/email/calendar. I will be graduating this year and will lose all these benefits. Is there a way to set up something similar? Currently I use Outlook 2007 on my PC's and Zimbra online. I hate using POP3/IMAP, my gmail always gets screwed up in outlook and I can't stand it. I can download Exchange Server 2007 from my school, but I assume I need a domain/hosting/registration and have to have a computer runnning 24/7? Are there any specific other things I will need? I've done basic HTML work before but nothing with SQL or PHP. When I try to access the email from online will it be a crappy interface or does that depend on who hosts me? Is it possible to get outlook web access? I assume if I have an exchange server I can use activesync? Thanks

Zimbra isn't Exchange and it looks to be free, although I've never used it.

For your own domain, yea you need a computer online and setup as an MX record for that domain to receive mail.

I use activesync with Zimbra for the past two years, it works as/with an exchange server.

Is there any cheaper methods than paying $15 a month for a hosted exchange server? This will only be for myself. I just need an email that has can manage my calendar/contacts/mail and stay synced with my smartphone.

I'm not sure what all protocols ActiveSync supports but if Zimbra is marketed as an Exchange replacement then I'm not surprised. But my main point was that you can install and run your own Zimbra server without any licensing fees. You'll still have to setup the domain, etc but that's true with any solution.

I am in a similar situation.
Looking for a good/cheap hosted exchange solution.

PS: Wow - did you go out and search for the most expensive hosted exchange provider?

I would not set up an exchange server for only one person. How many people do you except to be using it?

If for only one person or a few people, I would look at a hosted exchange service such as this http://www.intermedia.net/exch...ge-hosting/pricing.asp
