Now that I've called them, I'm not sure that I want a car that small (low). The ad was as follows:

VW GTI '03 20th Anniversary edition of the rabbit. Black, Ricardo Racing seats, all power, 25k miles, 1.8 L turbo, 6 spd., $16,500 Call XXX-XXXX

Anybody have any experience with GTI's and know what problems to look for?

New model GTI is far superior to the 2k3, I'd wait for one of those, or, as stated above, don't get a goddam VW. If you can plunk down money for a GTI, you might as well move for a wrx.

I've driven my buddy's WRX and I don't care to jump on that bandwagon.

Other than FWD I like my brother's AE20.

I used to own a 97 VR6 new.

Now I like my 98 240SX SE...got the suspension dialed in, next the audio/interior, then brakes, and then about 8psi.

does it have any warranty left on it? if you can, get the extended warranty. VWs are nice... just cost a lot to fix when it breaks. my 2 cousins drive GTIs back home... they like it as well as i do...

What should I look for?
A better car. that price will get you a same age and miled maxima, which is better than the VW in every category I can think of: power, size, reliability, etc.

But I don't want to be seen as a thirtysomething father just yet.

I have a Jetta and haven't had any problems with VW, except for the slightly high cost on getting parts (Nothing has broke, just wanted to buy extra upgraded stuff). Don't listen to the VW haters, I bet most of them have never even had a VW.

You're right.

And honestly, parts aren't THAT expensive if you know where to look (NOT THE DEALERSHIP). Here's the thing about VW's: Drivetrains are built very solid, and they safe cars, however that "German Engineering" always comes up with a few quirky ways of doing things which causes issues, but really, most of the time VWOA will take care of you.

$16,500...hmm...do your research and see if you can get a little better deal.

Go for a test drive, if you like it: Buy it!

Something other than a VW.

VW SUX

You're in idiot! :D

I don't care if people are not in favor of VWs, but at least give a little reasoning. Just as me calling you an idiot without a good reason sounds dumb, you saying "VW SUX" withouth an explanation is pretty damn stupid also.

Why do you care what other people think? You're the one who has to drive it

Regarding Maxima...
"But I don't want to be seen as a thirtysomething father just yet."

Obviously, there is not hope at this point. Definitely sounds like the OP wants to be seen as the type of person who drives a VW. Unfortunately, the stereotypical person that drives a VW is now an idiot, and not a 20-something person with style who is moving up in the world.
