Going to L.A. (Los Angeles) this weekend

My friend and I just decided to meet up in LA this weekend and do some random stuff (he's from bay area, im from san diego).

Plan in general is to meet up somewhere at our booked hotel/motel (don't know where yet) by noon on Saturday and do the tourist thing during the day in Hollywood

Then go to that little area Westwood? around dinner time and watch the UCLA/LSU game there at some sports bar (recommendations?).

Then at night, maybe check out a club in the area (have no clue what clubs are there) or somewhere there is action (3rd st promenade?)

Then next day go to Downtown or I dunno have no clue... see a taping of a show? nevermind, it will be Sunday

Where is the best place in LA to try to look for a hotel/motel?

We also want to have lunch in hollywood and go where the famous people hang out.

What places in hollywood is worth to park. Im thinking the attractions are where the stars are at, melrose dr, and rodeo dr? what else is there..

i went to ucla and still live in the area. i work near 3rd street promenade.

if you want to watch ucla/lsu at a sports bar, i would not suggest westwood as the bars there suck. the chili's there is probably the best place but that is not saying much.

busbys on santa monica blvd is pretty decent sports bar near by (its about 5 miles west of ucla towards 3rd street promenade).

hollywood clubs are well pretty crowded/ expensive. most of them are around hollywood blvd, etc. i am not sure how much fun you will have honestly.

i dunno 3rd street is ok for tourists. theres a few decent bars there etc, a hooters, etc. not really sure where the stars hang out, but i saw kurt russell on 3rd street before. and i saw pierce brosnon in santa monica too as well as robert downey jr at a random chicken place at lunch. so yeah santa monica, bel air, beverly hills, century city all decent places to i dunno possibly see a random famous person.

i guess if you are a tourist there is stuff to do, i'm assuming you've never been to los angeles?

Actually its my friend who has never been to Hollywood, so he will be the full on tourist. Ive been to these places at least once a while ago, but this time im actually gonna be the tour guide/driver/planner. i've walked on the stars of fame, went to the chinese mann theater. went to universal studios and citiwalk. drove thru rodeo drive quickly.

I've been to the UCLA campus, drove thru westwood, during the day. I was watching KTLA? news last week when UCLA won and it seemed like a happening place to watch the game? plan was to kinda pretend we are UCLA students

Been to 3rd street promenade but not at night...

We both been to Venice Beach, don't need to go there..

We are 24/25 years old and will play single.

We are somewhat on a budget too, so if hollywood clubs are really expensive that would be out of the question.

3rd street isn't particularly great for "going out", as it's fairly family oriented. A better bet would be Main street, which is just a couple blocks away. 3rd street might be good for watching the game though (Hooters/Yankee Doodle/etc).

If you want a great atmosphere with reasonably priced drinks, go to Maloney's. It will be the place to be for game time. Lots of TV's, lots of drunk Bruin fans, and a rowdy atmosphere will all be there if that's what you're looking for. I know I'm going to be there really early to try to get a table with my friends. You may want to try Acapulco's as well, they might be having happy hour during game time, but I'm not sure. They have cheap platters ($4 can serve at least 3-4 people) and drinks during that time.

As for clubs, there are a ton of them. If you want to find a lounge type of area hit up Sunset Strip, otherwise there are a gazillion trendy clubs around the Hollywood area. Most will have really long lines however especially on a Saturday night.

Where is Maloney's?

Any names of a couple clubs you recommend for starter's? Just want to feel the hollywood vibe

Maloney's is in Westwood at Gayley and Weyburn. I've never been there for a game, but some people complain that it's usually too dark and too loud (music). Don't know what you're looking for, but just wanted to give you a heads-up.

just looking for rowdy drunk bruin fans i guess.. ok ill google where Maloneys is in westwood. hows the parking there?

there's a parking building there that's free or cheap. street parking is pretty much impossible.

I usually see "stars" at the Ralph's and Starbuck's near my house in the East San Fernando Valley. 😉

If you are going to go to Westwood for the game, get there damn early. Parkign will suck.

If you were in a fraternity, Frat Row is northwest of the main part of the Westwood shopping/bar/restaraunt area. I bet the frat's will have some kick-butt parties.

that parking lot is free for 2 hours only

parking in the maloneys lot is $10/all day IIRC

Just so you know, UCLA's on spring break this week, so it may not be quite as rowdy as you'd like. To be honest, most sports bars in LA will probably be filled with bruin fans, or at very least people masquerading as bruin fans. Best bet for parking might be the garage a block away on Broxton, where first 2 hours are free.

594 S Mapleton Dr,
Los Angeles, CA 90024

The largest occupied house in the state of California. Cool to look at. Aaron Spelling lives there.

Why would you even consider going to downtown L.A. unless you enjoy crossing a new gang territory every few blocks

this person has no clue what they are talking about

Not a lot of gang activity in downtown, especially on Sunday.

Don't bother with downtown on Sunday. There is nothing to do there then.

How about Universal Studios, Magic Mountain or even Disneyland?

Rodeo Drive (walking) and Beverly Hills mansions (driving)?

Thanks for the input everyone..

We were able to find a old friend of ours that lives in the Westwood area and she is letting us stay.

We got studio tickets for a saturday morning taping of Deal Or No Deal. My friend is a big fan of that show, I haven't watched it before but I'm sure it will be fun.

During the day jus do the North Hollywood thing, drive around Beverly Hills, etc watever we have time for

Then watch the UCLA game, hopefully the sport bars are walking distance from base.

After the game?? dont know

Don't know what to do for Sunday either, I guess just do what we missed on Saturday

We'll save theme parks for later, I rather go with big groups, family, or with a significant other. It will be weird two guys hanging around Disneyland heh

btw i'd have to say maloney's sucks.

i dont think you could actually talk to someone in that bar without losing your voice because it is so loud in there. they play all the music super loud.

i'm 25 too, so i'm not ike a 50 year old complaining. the westwood brewing company , would probably be a better idea actually , it is not nearly as loud and they have better beer. i think the beer is cheaper there too.

if you plan to go to a club in hollywood, prepare for $20 cover and $9 drinks and $5-6 beers. that is all i'm saying.

i would have to agree with the other guy , main st. is a lot better than 3rd street since 3rd street is really family oriented. they do have a yankee doodle, a hooters, and a few other bars / lounges there.

lounge 217 and gotham hall are pretty decent, there is some bar around there too forgot the name, its irish sounding.

as for the people talking about downtown. well honestly there is nothing to do there at night, hence all the revitalizing effort.

and yeah do not park your car on an unlit street etc there. there is a reason there are streets with no cars on them, and the next block over has no parking because it is lit. i generally only go to downtown at night if i'm going to the staples center.
