Visit the border! It is a super reminder of why the US military is still in Korea. I've lived here for over 2 1/2 years and still think that trip to the border (and across) has been the highlight of my stay here.
how come?I think you answered the question already. The DMZ shows us that nK and South Korea are still at war. Remember, that the two countries are only at armistice. Whether the stories you relate are true or not, I think you'll agree that we don't want our allies (ROKs) subjected to nK (DPRK) aggression.
There's not a doubt in my mind that things are not right in that country. The steely eyed glare of the nK soldiers burning into our backs as we walked out of their country plus the many stories related supposedly by escaping nK citizens as they asked for political asylum make me grateful that I am on this side of the JSA.

I can't remeber where excatly but, in Seoul they have a huge computer market place you can find some nice stuff there...also some vintage stuff like voodoo gfx boards. Also if you have a military ID you should check out OSAN AFB its a very nice base, if you dont have an ID check out the shopping around the base they have alot of the vendors speak english. Have fun and stay away from the anti-american marches they have there sometimes (Seoul).

Apparantly they're well sick bastards.
Some woman who escaped to China was deported back. As they picked her up, instead of using cuffs, they push a piece of wire through the muscle between your thumb and first finger. They led her off, 'screaming like a pig about to be slaughtered'.
For groups of people, they have one long piece of wire and push it underneath each person's collarbone, then lead them around in a line, obviously to be executed.
Another story: some woman had allegedly done some wrong (or a relative had), so they hused a contrapion that forced the throat open, and poured boiling water into her until she fell unconcious. When she came to, they had a plank of wood resting on her stomach, and two guys were standing on it. Water came out of her eyes, ears, ass, everywhere. She was begging them to kill her.
Nice place.
