I haven't been to Korea for almost 25 years, and I'm 25 years old (I went there as a toddler).
My relatives will be seeing me for the first time since I was a little baby, so I'm super excited.
I'll be arriving in Korea on Aug 1st future time (aka, korea local time). I've been living in the west coast of US all my life living in present time (rather, the 2nd to the last heavily populated area in the time zones @ GMT -8). This will be the first time where I'll be going to future time (more than 10 hours). And of course "future time" is the wrong word for it, but it's just very funny to me. I like to refer to people living in different time zones as future time people. Don't mind me...
Anyways, let me get to the point of this thread:
Who in AT is in Korea next week, and want to meet up? Anything for Korean-Americans to do over there? My Korean sucks hard. I can understand any conversation, but sometimes have difficulty expressing what I have in my head into words in Korean (well, I do that in English to. Wierd because I can type Korean and express my thoughts a ton easier than speaking it. Same with Engrish. My speaking level is that of an elementary student hahahaha. I can read/write at elementary level too. bah, pitiful, but i'm usually refered to as a BANANA XD).
Everyone tells me that I'll get some ass and hit on when I get there, since it happened to them. I don't expect to find this to be true. I kind of expect to find that I'll be looked down upon for speaking English in public (based off of playing mmo's and other games w/ native Koreans, man, some of them really passionately hate us. But those that do are the young ones). Since I won't know anyone there aside from relatives and friends that visited So. Cal, I'm going to see if my failed girl-nabbing tactics work over there.
About Korean girls in Korea, what are some good tactics for approaching in English?
I've heard many suggestions already, but this community has a lot of people in common, so I'll take your suggestions as well. It'll be tough though, since I'll be probably barhopping w/ my little brother (he's 22, in med school, extremely buff and athletic and charismatic. I'm 25, w/ a programming job, earning crap in an awesome workplace, and not as fit. I think anyone would know who'd win in nabbing girls. only upside is that my bro's very religious and doesn't want premarital anything, lol...).
As much as I love my little brother to death, I'm hesitent to follow him into bars hahahahaha. I'll be the wingman always, most likely
.
ok, i'm just rambling now.
Now, tell me what are some cool things to do. Don't tell me the obvious like visit DMZ, visit museums, visit the blue house, visit that one mall that opens @ 10pm and closes @ 6am, go along the shops along han river...etcetc.
Tell me something that no one knows yet. If you have a secret cool thing that must be done in Seoul that no one has yet to discover, tell me.
Where do all the nerds hang in Korea? (like how here, we have AT, comic con, hobby shops, etc. don't tell me pcbang. no. ). I'll see if I can go into those live PC gaming events hahahaha.
I will try my best to get into a pcbang and take a video/pics of me getting my ass kicked in starcraft.
lol.
I'm willing to bet that there's a few vets in here that are more Korean than my Korean buttocks.
After I come back, I'll make sure to update w/ PICS and hopefully some VIDs.
