OK, so I am backing up everything to be sure onto my external HDD, then I will manually copy my one important folder which is USER over to a second external just to be sure.

I am doing a full reinstall, so that means the 840 Evo is going to be the OS drive, and the WD Black is going to be for data, do I need to change the letter on this from C: to D: before I install the OS to the 840 Evo?

Make sure you set the SATA setting in your BIOS to AHCI if it isn't already. Also you might want to just unplug the WD black until after your Windows install is complete on the 840. Once Windows is installed on the 840 plug the WD back in and reformat it.

I would suggest as well ONLY have the SSD hooked up. Just to avoid any headaches.

nope no need to change any drive letters, windows will always go to c if there is no other drives in the machine.

once installed hookup the WD drive and it will show up as d: or e:
