I'm in need of a new minidv camcorder, the one i recently had, just broke and the warrenty had just ran out a few months back. Now I'm looking for a new one, and don't want to spend more that aroudn 600-700 bucks, the best at the cheapest price would be the best, because I've already invested 3500+ in 3 tickets to india. And Now I need to get a camcorder quick. Can someone please recomend a nice minidv camcorder for the above price mentioned. Thanks alot

Thanks again

The moment you start bathing, drinking, and sexing it up in the Ganges River, a camcorder is the least of your concerns.

I don't get it. The camera is "an investment". The cost of the tickets is money gone! I own a $600-700 unit now, and my next one is going to be MUCH better. The Panasonic PV-GS400 has peaked my interest so far...

Lol ... it does 😀

Get something small and unobtrusive.

When I took my 3CCD miniDV to India, the people immediately start congregating around you. They start talking to you and touching you. This has happened to me quite frequently while filming around busier areas.

Sometimes I've had young men follow me around looming in the near distance eyeing the cam.......prolly looking to steal my camera (after all, it's $2k+ I spent for it). That would have been gutsy on their part as I'm 6'4" and a fast sprinter. 😉

Just take care to strap that camera around your body and make sure you let THEM KNOW you're watching them as well as they're watching you. Keep the cam close to the body and don't keep it out for too long. Pack the camera up when done with your clip...........If you can, have your friend watch your back while you're filming.

Also put a small lock on each external pocket of your pack. Keep the pack strapped to you.

Remember that you're in third world territory so don't expect getting the same invisible treatment as you would at Disney World.

BTW, this is not endemic to India, I've had much more serious attempts on my cam in Spain (Ibiza). So just stay always frosty or else you could end victimized like some of my friends while travelling to exotic locations.

Samsung is probably the best value in miniDV camcorders. Sony is overpriced. JVC and Panasonics are relative crap. Canon is good, but has nagging issues like motor noise, etc.

Btw, Consumer Reports have a miniDV ratings issue THIS month (Nov. 2004). So go to your bookstore ASAP before it's gone!

3 Panny and 2 Hitachi models were were the Top 5 (Panny VDR-M70). Canon and 4 Sonys rounded the Top 10 of 28.

I can vouche for Panny--GREAT cams (i.e. quality pics, reliability, performance). Sony is good too, but more overpriced. As the market stands TODAY (past 2 years), I'd get Panny--no question. They're universally highly rated, reliable and priced well.

CR also rated the Sony and Pannies as the most reliable.....JVC was the worst with 9% having "serious problems".

When you're ready to buy, go to www.onecall.com and price match an authorized dealer with them. Onecall is a true high quality outfit.

I just bought this. Its a cute little camcorder. Seems to work well and the best thing about it is it uses the same battery as my Canon S60.

I was leaning towards the 3CCD Panasonics but my wife didn't like the traditional camcorder form factor.

even though Palak ( spinach ) is spelt the way it is ( with 1 A ) its actually prnounced with an extended A sound.. so its PAALAK... while his name is just PALAK ( with no extension to a sound of the A )

hey if you do know that the footage you record will not display on most TV sets in India, right ? They use PAL over there....
