Going to Ikea today

To buy stuff for my soon-to-be finished basement office, maybe some light fixtures, plus other random things...

Suggestions?

Anyone get anything cool there recently?

I love that friggin place.

I know...

They have some amazing deals on some things, but then other things are priced fairly normally. Can't say I've found much that was completely over priced, however. I like their style, however - almost everything is very modern and contemporary.

I live about 2 hours from the closest Ikea, but I'm going to be about 1/2 way there at a clients this afternoon, so figure what the heck...

In medium brown and the other legs.

That's cool. A buddy of mine just bought a couple of the white ones for his office, didn't know they were available in darker colors.

That could be nice for my office....

See how many Swedish meatballs you can fit in your mouth at once
or
See how many you can eat in 5 minutes.

Ikea has some decent things, but the build question is extremely debatable.

Yeah, well - you gotta know what you're getting.

They have some things that look similar to things that would sell for 10x as much from an Italian importer, but obviously the build quality won't be there.

Most things there are at least decent quality and up.

If I had unlimited cash, I wouldn't be going to Ikea, I'd go that Italian importer. 😉

By "build question" do you mean the quality of the products or do you mean you question that you have to build the furniture?

build quality ... some stuff aren't as sturdy as they should be. Good place for cheap(er) furniture for a townhouse/apartment though.

i love going to ikea for random small things. too bad i go to the toronto ikea from michigan just to buy stuff if i want.

i got some cheap speaker stands for 20 USD a pair last time 🙂

I apologize- I meant "build quality"

their poang chairs are awesome... have them in my theater room and are very comfortable for movie watching.

Save your money and go to a real furniture store. All the stuff there won't last.

The problem with "real" furniture stores, is all their stuff looks like crap. If you don't want to look like a soccer mom with little taste and "country living" aspirations, Ikea may be the only option.

Also, you know Ikea doesn't use old growth wood, or illegal mahogany, etc.
