Decemeber 12-17th, the lady and I are heading to Colorado to go to Durango. We are staying at a nice little condo type place. Here is the link to the place:

Has anyone ever heard of it or been there? When I go I will take lot's of picks. Here in Dallas, we hardly see any snow, so I am really excited about the snow and mountains. What are your opinions about this place?

My wife and I went to Mesa Verde National Park back in 1999, and spent the night in Durango. We weren't there very long, but it seemed like a really nice small town.

If you get the chance, I highly recommend Mesa Verde. Take one or both of the main tours if at all possible.

I am from Colorado and I would also recomend a trip to Mesa Verde.

Sorry I have not heard of the B&B.

Yea, actually I was born in Farmington, NM, which is about 20 mins south of Durango. I am familiar with the area myself, even went to Mesa Verde when I was around 11 yrs old. Yes I remember it well. We can't go to it because it will be to snowy for it(they close the park off it times like that). We do plan to ride the Durango/Silverton train, however, it won't go all the way to Silverton.

As well as go to Purgatory, but I hear they don't call it that anymore. Any other suggestions in the Durango area at that time?

Four corners, hot springs, the indian casino, ice climbing. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will be performing there the 12th as well, I'm trying to persuade my girlfriend to drive down for the show :)

The hot springs is something we will go to, for sure. Anything I need to prepare for with that? Also, where is the indian casino at, she has NEVER been to a casino so we might try that too. Any other suggestions? Do you think the drive between Durango and Silverton will be too much with the snow and what not?

Mentally prepare to see some people who shouldn't be wearing next to nothing wearing next to nothing. There's some degree of privacy, but not enough. I haven't been to the springs in Durango so I can't speak as to the specifics of the place.

The casino is about a 20 minute drive down from Durango on 172, it's called the "Sky Ute Lodge and Casino" - you can probably google it for better directions.

The drive to Silverton is usually pretty good, unless we get dumped on. If this winter is like last though, it should be pretty warm, and a really easy drive.

Mesa Verde Tours only run from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The lady at the B&B said this year they are expecting alot of snow and really cold weather. How the heck can you tell? I guess I am used to the "I live in Texas, the weather is NEVER the same or what the meterologists tell us" gig.

The lady at the B&B knows that snow draws people to Colorado, and will happily say that. The sad truth is we usually have late winters.

I have heard though that this year is supposed to be more wet than last year, so hopefully that works out in your favor.

When we toured out west we stayed two nights in Durango, to ride the train to Silverton and back. That was a great trip. Silverton was a little too tourist-oriented for my taste, but they had enough historical stuff there to make up for it. It was the most "old west" looking place I've ever actually been to.

Didn't stay at the B&B you booked, but if it's an AAA 4-diamond place it will be nice.
